i think that this song is about balancing the love of a person and the love of music. it seems to me that the first verse is about protecting yourself from love by throwing yourself into a passion, a talent, in this case song.... missing out on love because of your onnection to your music is what "breaks my heart" the second verse seems to say that she is happy that she wasnt so absorbed in her music to miss out on love... it also points out the irony of singing love songs rather than falling in love. |

this song was written about a young mother that antony keidis met while he was attending NA and AA meetings and trying to get clean. she was doing her best to get sober as well and failing miserably. the sadness and pain that are evoked my this song are meant to reflect the tragedy of the relationship between this young mother and her child. personaly, i thikn it is one of the chilipeppers most beautiful song. i looove it |
