Jeez, guys. U2 covered Neon Lights back in 2004 and released it on the Vertigo CD single in a few select countries. Australia and Canada are two of them, but I'm certain that's not the end of the list.
I think the lyrics of this song are quite pretty. Who wants to talk about them? |

Really interesting interpretations here, I think you have most of it covered.
Regarding the chorus, I don't think intoxication is being used as a metaphor for passion, per se. Rather, I think those lines are simply a metaphor for how intertwined their lives are. The fact that she uses alcohol in the imagery suggests that this intimacy may be harmful, but I don't think she's growing cold to him here. In spite of his endless mistakes and their incompatibility, she acknowledges how important he is to her and would indeed bleed for the man in order to get him back. It's implied that she can, but some harsh words were said.
Definitely a love song, but not in the typical mold. The passion is there, but it's less of a focal point than the significance of the relationship itself and what these two individuals mean to each other. Gotta love Joni. |

| Wilco – Wishful Thinking Lyrics

This song is forever tied to memories I have of the awkward period between the time my girlfriend and I became close friends and the day we chose to pursue the feelings we were experiencing. We were able to retain our friendship through it all, but she had very strong feelings for me, and I was entirely oblivious. However, I did often fantasize about what a relationship with her would be like and I assumed that to be, yes, wishful thinking. Of course, the feelings were mutual, but that whole period is still represented to me by this aching track, as it encapsulated that confusion and hopelessness, while simultaneously RECOMMENDING that I indulge those fantasies, that I shoot for the moon. Because, after all, where would I be without them? I would be without her, really.
Stepping away from myself for a moment, I think this album fits exceedingly well on A Ghost Is Born. It has a bleary, morning-after self-loathing about it that I can't get enough of, and the lyrics cut right through me. The primary question he asks is a loaded one; he's clearly been burned by love before. Regardless, he bitterly concedes that he wouldn't have changed a thing, as those memories are all he has now. |

As a practicing Christian, I approve of this song. People with good intentions (or not-so-good intentions) often miss the whole point and put God in a box that benefits their whims and/or makes them feel safe. He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays, indeed. |

^ Wonderful interpretation.
This song channels Ian Curtis and Joy Division so well. It has the same brooding melodic qualities, but manages to be catchy at the same time. My favorite track on Boxer for sure. |

Yeah, IHateMidgets is right; I'm pretty sure this song is about Eric Schenkman, and the "Chris" they're referring to is Spin Doctor's lead singer Chris Barron. |

"going to your funeral and I’m feeling like a fool
no one’s gonna take the blame
thinking about the days of hanging out behind the school"
I'm pretty sure this is about the funeral of one of his friends that passed, not his sister or mother. Actually, I think his mother is discussed in the first verse, his sister in the second, and his friends in the third. Pretty overwhelming stuff. |

There must be some extremely philosophical, Freud-esque meaning for this one, but I'm not even going to bother.
I want some of that sugar she's talking about! |

This song is absolutely beautiful. It's just more ruminations concerning her wish to be a wife/mother, which she achieved. ;) |

Takeover's beat kills this song, but Ether has the better lyrics.
Still, when it comes to classic albums:
Jay-Z - two (Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint)
Nas - one (Illmatic)
That's all that needs to be said. And they're both worthless now. |

Detrimental to society? What? Who cares. This is POP music, and very fun, catchy pop music at that. It's a very twisted song, but that sets it apart from everything else on radio. And unless your viewpoint is as twisted as the heroine in this song's is, you probably won't get it, let alone relate to it.
But enough about that. I LOVE this song. |
