| My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay (I Promise) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Yes, Korean, but do you really think teenagers would commit suicide just because they think it's "cool"? I mean, you can get swallowed up in any image you want, but the human mind always favors life over death. Unless you truly hate life, I can't see why anyone would kill themselves for no reason like that. I think the human mind, the need to survive, would overcome that. | |
| Mastodon – Capillarian Crest Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I am the law, I'm misunderstanding your post. Are you saying I'm an MCR fan? I'm not. Though I'm not sure if that was what you're saying... | |
| My Chemical Romance – Helena Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Well, the best ever might be Page, in my opinion. McCready and Tom Morello are the best current guitarists out. | |
| My Chemical Romance – Helena Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Korean, I've never considered Tremonti as a "bad" guitarist, but he's surely not one of the best...I think that title might have to go to Mike McCready...his solos are amazing... | |
| My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay (I Promise) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Korean, on the whole image thing, I just want to point out something... Metal. Worshipping the devil, lyrics of hatred and darkness, disgusting stage acts involving blood or some other type of fluid, horrendous costumes (Slipknot, Mudvayne, for example). That's not a very good image presented, is it? Rap- Spending millions of dollars on "grillz" and nice cars, while smacking around "bitches" like they're "hos" and you're a "pimp". That's not a very good image presented, is it? Pop- Getting on stage in almost nothing, shaking your "boo-tay" in people's faces. That's not a very good image presented, is it? Punk- People slamming into each other in mosh pits, doing crazy jumps off of stage platforms, doing drugs. That's not a very good image presented, is it? Hell, even my favorite "genre", alternative, with the image of dressing up in dirty clothes and not bathing. That's not a very good image presented, is it? I am not a fan of MCR, and even though the emo image isn't good, then again, what is? That's why I look past the image and head straight to the music. I never watch music videos, and I have only been to two live shows. (Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters) |
| Mastodon – Capillarian Crest Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I don't consider myself a "metal" person, but some Mastodon songs are really good, this being the best...I know nothing about the band, so I would sound like a moron if I tried to form a meaning... | |
| Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Nice name, Copronymous X. Tatterscratch, but anyways... You digged maybe a BIT too far on that one, but nice analysis... It's the ultimate in sadness/breakup songs, except it doesn't suck and the lyrics are cleverly put together, unlike most of the slow breakup songs that are polluting our airwaves today. The ending, with Vedder screaming, is one of the finest moments in all of music... |
| Pearl Jam – Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Lol, Talibob, I'd give this an 8 on the mummability chart...you can understand the "I don't want to stay" part too! Renzo, nice description, I don't know if it's accurately true, but since Vedder changes the damn lyrics every time he sings it, ya never know... It HAS to have a meaning, or at least I hope it does... Possibly the greatest set-closer ever... AND... I think I'm number 100! Woo for me!! Or not... |
| Stone Temple Pilots – My Second Album Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, this might be the first time I ever laughed my balls off at the end of a CD... After the masterpiece Kitchenware and Candybars, I was surprised to hear this song, and it is very funny... I can't believe whiever originally recorded this actually thought it was good... Come on, bands need a sense of humor!! Just look at Spinal Tap!! |
| Stone Temple Pilots – Revolution (The Beatles cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, I think they rocked throughout their whole career, but responding to your comment is useless now, since you posted it in 2002.... The cover reflects the more pop-oriented music they've been striving for since Tiny Music... It's not a pefect cover, but, with covers, I like to pretend whoever is covering the song really wrote it, and judge it from there. Besides for Weiland straining his voice a couple of times through the song, STP do a good job... If you would like to know the meaning of the song, then go to the Beatles page, though the meaning isn't exactly hard to find... |
| Stone Temple Pilots – Pop's Love Suicide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think this song is about the pressures of fame...though the lyrics are hard to follow, perhaps reflecting the state of mind of one in Weiland's position? Very catchy song, I'm surprised I'm the first comment, but it has to start somewhere, I guess... |
| Stone Temple Pilots – Lounge Fly Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeah, kaisute, I agree on the interpretation... The line "the dogs, they won't release me" could be referencing "Plush", as that song has the same subject matter... I'm sure Scott didn't actually project himself as the madman portrayed in this song, he was just putting himself through the eyes of one... The whole relationship interpretation is sensible, but digging deeper shows that there may be a darker meaning than what's on the surface... |
| Foo Fighters – Darling Nikki (Prince cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's kind of ironic that somebody could say the Foo Fighters suck, yet "bow down" to a shit band like Cannibal Corpse...If you think this is their only good song, then you couldn't have heard much of their other stuff, as it's all amazing... I like this better than the Prince version... This song is special to me because I'm in love with a girl called Nikki...not that I masterbate with a newspaper to her, though...(that's just primitive)... |
| Audioslave – Wide Awake Lyrics | 19 years ago |
They didn't "make him" do shit... Cornell wrote this on his own accord...and who could blame him? The mishandling of the hurricane relief and preparation was one of the most idiotic moves, well, ever... |
| Audioslave – Nothing Left to Say But Goodbye Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Wow, after listening to the new album, I have a different favorite song every time...this just may be it. The guitar during the verses is amazing, this sounds like a gem off of Soundgarden's Down on the Upside album...no, scratch that, this is a an Audioslave gem...Audioslave are so good, I think it's about time we stop making comparisons to their old bands. | |
| Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, Richard, honestly, while I have no part in this conversation, the other songs aren't as memorable as the others...I know that sounds ass backwards, but the people who dislike Green Day will pick out the better songs (ex. American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams) because they know more people will be posting, so more Green Day fans (I wouldn't consider myself a fan, though) will read it....now, whether or not those people that make those statements realize that people don't give a damn and they aren't going to be convinced by them is still left to be seen... I feel this is a pretty good song...It's overrated, as the message precedes the actual music (that is why I despise rock operas; too much emphasis is placed on the story when all I want is some great music...only a handful of rock operas actually worked (ex. The Wall, Tommy)). Those songs like She's a Rebel and Homecoming are rather bland and tired, and just aren't as good as the songs that were released as singles... |
| My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Oh, GOD FORBID Green Day released a rock opera, all these 2nd-rate bands have to follow in their footsteps...at least the song doesn't suck THAT bad... I hate rock operas because the music seems like an afterthought to the story...American Idiot is a good example. Sure, there were some gems thrown in there, but there was way too much filler, and it's hard to sit through the whole thing in one cycle. |
| Daddy Yankee – Gasolina Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I know I'm contributing to this, but... Why is this the most viewed song? First off, it sucks balls, and second off, it wasn't THAT big a hit...I mean come on, people, if you're going to mindlessly view something, as least view something that is good...and speaks in English please...trying to understand this song is like trying to hit a bulls-eye...you try and try, but you never get it. |
| Audioslave – Broken City Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeah, I definitely see the RATM influence on that funky bass beat (any thoughts of Commerford being a weak bassist were put to rest as I listened to this). I suck at interpreting lyrics unless someone has sparked an idea for me...so I'll say it's about a city....that is broken. Genius, huh? |
| Audioslave – Jewel Of The Summertime Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Nice. First comment... This is a very good song, and it is like an odd blend of "Show Me How to Live" and, well, "Dandelion". It is EXTREMELY catchy, and it pisses me off too, as I can't get that damn chorus out of my head. :) Honestly, I have no clue what it's about, so I'll take the easy way out and say it's about drugs! |
| Audioslave – Until We Fall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love this song...It's a nice break from the rest of the album, as it's really the only full-fledged "ballad" on the album ("Moth" is close, but the harder guitar parts take that part away from it) I would love to see this song get some radioplay... It's about Cornell (or more fitting, the protagonist) just wanting to get away...and never come back. C.C. (as I like to call him) hasn't missed a beat since his Soundgarden days... |
| Audioslave – Wide Awake Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is such a great song...the best one on the album along with "Sound of a Gun", and maybe "Original Fire".... To sum it all up: Bush is an asshole. A very big asshole. You don't normally get assholes as big as him. It's pretty obvious it's about Katrina, and the "I found you guilty of a crime" line is a very fine moment indeed... Don't let the political lyrics overtake the actual song, as it's equally strong... |
| Audioslave – Sound of a Gun Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Hah, I knew I recognized that part from "Drown Me Slowly"... The song is basically summing up a fractured youth... It's probably the best song on their new CD... Now, about the new CD. It's good. It's great. But nonetheless disappointing. I was expecting another epic rock album like their masterpiece Out of Exile...I understand that they've become more funky and soulful, but the songs aren't as instantly memorable as Audioslave's biggest hits... But what this album does give is consistency...every song is good, there is not one song that constitutes as filler. This song better be relesed as a single, because it is downright awesome...I would also like to see "Until We Fall" and "Wide Awake" gain some radioplay, as they are very good also... I would give the album 4 out of 5 stars...and this song a perfect 5. |
| Creed – With Arms Wide Open Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeah, despite being quite sappy (I'm only fifteen, I can't relate to that "fatherly" stuff yet, lol) I love this song. I don't think that Creed is a "semi cock-rock diluted grunge band". Sure, they did rip off some of Pearl Jam's style, but at least they're good rip-offs! And if they can write and compose the great songs that they do, they must be pretty talented... Nice name, No Code 79, lol, Pearl Jam are my fav. band too... |
| Nirvana – About a Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeah, SongSwann123, you nailed this one on the head...I read some of that book... Pretty good song for just a throwaway love song, huh? I think Cobain could've hinted towards marriage with the repeated "I do" parts... I'm like the only person who likes the Bleach version better than the Unplugged version...I don't know why... I probably don't like the Unplugged version as much because it takes too long for the song to start...well, only about 20 seconds...yeah, I'm pretty impatient, lol... |
| Nine Inch Nails – March of the Pigs Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The "pigs" refer to the people who doubt Reznor, or want him to fail...though as a whole, the song probably refers to the masks we use to hide our everyday selves... This song is pretty heavy, then comes out of nowhere with a beautiful piano-laden chorus. It's a pretty strange song, but pretty damn awesome as well. |
| Pearl Jam – Black, Red, Yellow Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, I never thought that Rodman would be a Pearl Jam fan, but oh well...I don't really know if this song was made for him though...like, the verses have nothing to do with the guy...it's pretty confusing. Especially the "fifty foot Roman" part...WTF? lol... Pretty good song, a throwaway, yes, but it was made just for fun... |
| Pearl Jam – Ghost Lyrics | 19 years ago |
That writer is Eddie Vedder...or is it? Actually, I THINK that Ed Ved wrote this one... I like this song, but it's kind of weak compared to the best stuff on Riot Act... I don't really like the chorus, it kind of bogs down the song, but a nice performance by McCready saves it. It's basically just about wanting to get away from everything...to be a "ghost" in the world. |
| Foo Fighters – Friend Of A Friend Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is obviously about Cobain... This song is very haunting... The music sounds like a slowed-down "Big Me", doesn't it? |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dani California Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm disappointed, this didn't win any awards at the VMAs... Though the VMAs suck balls anyway...along with MTV, for that matter. Well, I'm still not sick of this song, I call it "the breath of fresh air"...my mother tries to be "hip" by listening to the top 40 radio or "hot" radio or whatever, and every song sucks, but when this comes on it's, well, a breath of fresh air! Though I'm not much of a "radio" person...just in a car, because I'm not old enough to drive yet... |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – An Ode to No One (Fuck You) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Oh, and Alex: Fuck you. 'Nuff said. |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – An Ode to No One (Fuck You) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Cool song, but isn't it actually titled "Fuck You (An Ode to No One)" It means just two words: fuck everything. Simple, yet effective. |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – La Dolly Vita Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Such an amazing song... The Pumpkins are like Pearl Jam...they have SO many rare songs and b-sides, that if you bought both band's albums, you'd be missing out on half of the great music! I can't make out the meaning of it, or what's significant about La Dolly Vita, but I agree it's about inspiration... One of my SP favs! |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Never Let Me Down Again (Depeche Mode cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Funny that my fav. SP song wasn't written by them...:) But no matter, because this cover of Depeche Mode is out of this world. The music is so melodious, so calm, yet so haunting...it's unnervving...it's out of this world. I agree that the song is about drug usage, the narrator uses the term "best friend" to describe the drug, and phrases like "flying high again" only restate that fact... |
| Pearl Jam – Lukin Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeah, I think this song is about a crazed fan who was stalking Eddie and making claims of rape...and Eddie saught refuge at his buddy Lukin's house.. I bet this song shut that freak up, hah... By far, the best screaming your head off song of all time... This is probably my most played song of all time...Why? Because... A.It's under a minute. B. It's perfect for whenever I'm angry; just play this over a couple of times... Pearl Jam are the most amazing band in the world...never has a band acuurately depicted so many emotions through song as them...every song has a unique story... If you don't like Pearl Jam, then you aren't human... |
| Pearl Jam – World Wide Suicide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I like WWS live, it sounds rawer, although Vedder seems to be speeding it up too much with his vocal performance... I think PJ is speaking out more because, well, there's more to speak out against. Back when Clinton was president, there really wasn't much to worry about, and that was the bulk of PJ's career. This album isn't as politically influenced as their album before this one, released in 2002, called Riot Act, though... |
| Justin Timberlake – SexyBack Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Wow, what an awesome song! In this day and age, great lyricists are hard to come by, so J.T. is a breath of fresh air! The classic lines such as "I'm your slave" and "whip me" have now become a priceless part of American culture! And J.T. really puts the feeling behind those words, when he wants to be whipped, you know it! Imagine my surprise as I caught my 7-year-old cousin singing those exact words! It's good to know that we have artists nowadays that can inspire and reach out to our children! You can imagine how proud I was hearing my cousin sing those words! Aah, what a moment indeed, it's good to know that, despite all of the crap nowadays, people like J.T. can still write inspiring lyrics! Oh, and if you haven't heard, J.T. is coming out with the new singles "Do Me I'm Horny" and "Pussylicious"! If those songs are as inspiring as this one, J.T. may go down as one of the greatest songwriters of all time! |
| Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yes, I agree, Noble... Any time a song has lyrics that are hard to understand, people automatically assume it's about drugs. I'm sure Reznor wrote enough songs about drugs, EVERY song doesn't need to be about them... And I do know precisely what "Last Kiss" is about, as it's pretty straightforward, but anyways... I haven't read any other interpretations, but mine is that the protagonist is all alone (jail, maybe) and is reflecting on the mess of a life he's had so far...yes, it may be mundane, but I got that after only one listen... I didn't like this song on first listen, however... Really, I never like any NIN song on first listen...you need to listen to any NIN song repeatedly to get to like it...which is why Reznor is the genius that he is... |
| System of a Down – Toxicity Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is a great song... I think the title says it all: toxicity It's about the pollution and inevitable destruction of mankind... At least that seems the most sensible meaning... I also agree that the song could be mocking Christ, though the lines "software version 7.0" and "more wood for their fires" suggest that we are taking over nature, replacing it with technology and destroying it to build new buildings... |
| Default – Wasting My Time Lyrics | 19 years ago |
You know what, not a bad song... Though the lead singer tries to copy Scott Stapp's voice (of Creed), who in turn copied Eddie Vedder's vocal style (of Pearl Jam). You're getting sued, sucka!! Nah, just kidding, I really don't think singers try to "copy" one another's voice, it's just the way that their voice sounds...why try to force it to sound differently? This sounds like it could've been a Pearl Jam outtake, not that that's a bad thing... Good song though, very catchy... |
| Hole – Doll Parts Lyrics | 19 years ago |
CuteBabyDoll, you made one BIG mistake in your post... I agree that Cobain DID kill himself, and that people should stop with the conspiracy theories, but... Cobain did not hate his fans. He has made it clear in many interviews that the fans are really what kept him making music... He killed himself because (Granted, nobody will ever know for sure why he did it) of the media pressure...he hated it, plain and simple...and he was a bit, well, crazy...Which I personally think was a cowardice act...killing yourself means that you succumb to all the pressures and just lose faith... But he was a musical genius, I'll give him that... Now, finally, on to the song... I really didn't like it at first, but it grew on me...I'll admit, I first started listening to Hole with a very bad taste in my mouth, but that's all gone now... Courtney is out of her mind, but she sure can play music...I think this song IS about Cobain...he used to be fascinated with dolls, for whatever reason... Oh, and to those people who write that "not every song is about Cobain"...that may be true, but her freakin' husband committed suicide! You don't think that the emotions from that event inspired someof her lyrics? Gosh, it's the same with the Foo Fighters... |
| Alter Bridge – Open Your Eyes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This band is really, well, Creed... Same band members, same song structures, same religious-inflenced lyrics (Which I don't see as so bad; surely, I'm not an avid Christian, but it's nice to hear these emotions portrayed through songs). Minus Scott Stapp... I think Stapp is a better singer, though he sounds too much like Eddie Vedder... though many singers tried to copy Vedder's vocal style... But anyways, this is a great song, the chorus really catches on... |
| The Offspring – Come Out And Play Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is my favorite Offspring song... Like it was already said, it's about gang violence... I love that Egyptian-influenced riff... |
| Pearl Jam – World Wide Suicide Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, the penis-lyrics to this song were a bit, well, odd, but anyways... This is the best song off of their new album, maybe along with "Inside Job"... The first verse is self-explanatory, it's about how the protagonist saw a name of a fallen soldier he once knew in the newspaper. The bridge is really just a blast on the Bush admin. with lyrics like "the war is taking over" and "tell you to pray while the devil's on their shoulder" (One of my favorite lines, well, ever). The chorus is probably talking about the striking of different cultures, and how the only thing that can possibly come out of the Iraq war is another World War... The second verse is another summation of the failures of the Bush admin.... This song kicks ass... |
| Eagles of Death Metal – I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Very good song... I found out about the Eagles of Death Metal through Queens of the Stone Age... It's about how the protagonist wants to be with the woman, but his friends are telling the woman he's no good, backstabbing him, if you will... Jack Black has a little cameo during the chorus... Awesome song! |
| Mudvayne – Happy? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I saw Mudvayne at OzzFest a year ago, and, to be honest, didn't like them... They didn't seem really that much different from the nu-metal pack... But then I heard this song on the radio, and to my astonishment, the DJ said that Mudvayne sings it... If Mudvayne can make more songs like this, I'll take back any negative thoughts about them... Though they definitely try to best to entertain...(The singer walked onstage in a gorilla suit!)... |
| Foo Fighters – Razor Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I actually think this song is about a murderer... "Day after day, cuttin' away"... The murderer seems almost brainwashed and is viewing his blade as "divine". With this interpretation in mind, the song is very disturbing, given its acoustic work and sweet overtones... One of the greatest effects ever given off by a song, especially at night... |
| Black Sabbath – Planet Caravan Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Honestly, this is my favorite Black Sabbath song... It is actually very subdued and soothing, quite unlike what Sabbath is known for... Now, it's hard to make out what the song is about, it was undoubtedly written while high... Though the space travel theory seems to work... I don't take drugs, but I can't help but feel "tripped-out" when listening to this song...Whoa! |
| Pixies – Bone Machine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, the storytelling in this song is all over the place... Though I think that was the point... I know it's disgusting, but I can't help but think of a "bone machine" as a, well, a boner... Besides the sexual innuendos, this song is actually very good... The opening riff is very cool... |
| Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
What a mezmerizing song... It sends a chill down my spine, particulary during the instrumental outro... I think the song is through the eyes of a rapist, trying to push these thoughts inside the victim's head, to maybe try to justify what he is doing... It's very disturbing, to say the least... But it creates an hypnotic effect... |
