Sufjan Stevens – Vito's Ordination Song Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, this is what I got from it:
A man's son is getting married. There had been a rift between the two for many years, because the father had dreams and plans for the son, but the son wanted to be his own person. But! the man realizes as his son prepares for the wedding and writes his vows, his son is also man, and they are not dissimilar to each other as much as he had thought before. The man tries to make amends with his son, and tries to show him that the wedding can be the beginning of their new and better relationship together as father and son.
VOILA!
My only issue is the "when the bridegroom comes" might actually mean that the son is gay and is marrying another dude, and this is what caused the rift between father and son, but then there would be an onslaught of homophobia in here, (ack!).

Oh, but if you listen to it late at night, and your brain is moving a little slower, you can feel the different notes bounce around your head. Sort of feel the music. Or perhaps I'm simply nutty.

Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics 19 years ago
Tricolour, that is a truly unique opinion that makes a lot of sense when you think about it. I've read Catcher in the Rye quite recently, and it's still fresh in my mind.
I know, I must be completley out there, but the bit "he was bit seven times, he washes his face in his hands," for the first few hundred times I heard this song, (I listen to Sufjan all the time), I always heard it, "He washes his hands seven times". Because of that, I had this mental image of the friend being autistic or obsessive compulsive. Crazy? Yes. Makes Sufjan any less awesome? No.
