Yeah, I mean I'm usually not the type to go for the all screamo shit, but I won't lie, I love Pete's screaming. PS, doesn't anyone else think that Patrick's singing got like a million times better with this CD? I def. think so! So the part where it says: You'll put your eyes to the sun and say "I know" You're only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding I thinkt he quotes should go: You'll put your eyes to the sun and say "I know You're only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding" with the wya he sings it, it sounds like the quotes should just be around :I know: but it makes much more sense this way. I this this means that people in genereal, or even just the girl hes singing about, does all these things, or even just one main thing that distracts everyone from what is really going on. I also think that this part: Whoa ah oh lovesongs so genuinely cunning Should be: Whoa ah oh love songs for the genuinely cunning. and the bit that says "I got postcards from my former self saying 'how you been?'" makes sense because in TTTYG he talks about 'sending postcards from a plane crash', and that would be his former self. it also kind of sounds like 'i get house calls from my pharmasist saying 'how you been?' and that also makes sense with the suicidal part of Pete. And finally, when they do the bit about 'ice cream headaches', I loved it because for me, ice cream headaches are bittersweet. you get these awful headaches, but their cause is so sweet that it makes the pain worth it, and I think that is a point they are trying to make not only on this song, but on the whole CD as well. |

So if anyone has ever read the childrens novel, "The Phantom Tollbooth", the Doldrums are made up place in the novel. It is a place of utter boredom, dislike, and dreariness. The main characterends up0 there when he lets his mind wander, and the way for him to get out of the Doldrums is to think sharply yet again. And then what people have said about the whoole pirates/Doldrums thing I think it is all very interesting. Usually, I'm pretty good about deciphering songs, but I'm havin issues with this new FOB CD! I love though, none the less! |

hydraulic_heart, i didnt see you saying how you felt about the song either, so shut up. this song is def. about someone being lost and needing some guidance, but doesnt know where to go for it. i first discovered cartel a while ago, and shortly afer i did, a friend of mine committed suicide. this is the only song i would listen to, and now i cant even hear it without crying. its amazing, i have no words for how incredible this bad is. |

this song is basically my life. its everything thats going on for me right now, and has been going on for me for like over a year. heres how i took it, or how it applies to me.. its about a guy and a girl who are both with other people but know they shouldnt be. they knoww that theyre right for each other but they also know that theyve broken each others hearts before and are scared to try again. they are also mildly happy with the other people that they are with, and socially its easier for them to be with with other people, but they are having issues being able to give all of them to the other people because a part of them still wants to be with each other. they know. i mean, they seriously know that they need to be together, and like when they hang out or are together, theyre all over each other, and they want each other so badly, and sometimes they forget about those moments.. |
