On the most basic level, this song is about the singer's addiction... most people would assume to a lover. But from the first time I popped this into my stereo, I thought there might be a joke/double entendre going on here. My theory is that the song is about.... coffee. Call me crazy, but look at the lyrics: "Dark like the shady corners," "hot like to burn my lips," "bitter traces," "stains." It's all very clever, speaking about it in terms we usually associate with a relationship. But if you read the words, they can all be related to someone trying to quit coffee. "...get you off my mind, tried a little TEA and sympathy to help me to unwind," "Wakin' up without you I can hardly speak," etc. etc. Any other thoughts? -Annie |
