Atreyu – My Sanity on the Funeral Pyre Lyrics 19 years ago
It's like a struggle people go thorugh in order to live life, it either treats you well or badly, it seems the character inthe song has had a bad life and seems to be the cause of his own pain... but the pain is paranoia 'Sometimes it feels like the whole wide world has made itself
my enemy' the world isn't literally his enemy, but what has become of him has led him to believe this.

Atreyu – Someone's Standing on My Chest Lyrics 19 years ago
The someone that's standing on his chest is the idea of love and not getting it... At the start, he's understanding his loneliness, and by the chorus, he realises that his weakness of waiting for love controls him and his actions... verse 2, show that he's angry with the way he is, and that hoping for this love taht'll never come is slowly tearing him apart.
The final stages of the song, seems to be like a suicide note or a final plea to himself, that he's not cried for this pain but god does it hurt!

Atreyu – Corseting Lyrics 19 years ago
It's someone falling for their object of passin but unable to go ahead with it, for the fear of heartbreak. 'Just let go and take yourself out, before i kill you too.' tells me that, one of them is making a plea to the other to take his/her heart away from their own reach before it gets broken.

Atreyu – The Crimson Lyrics 19 years ago
The song has many references to vampires, and for a couple of years, Atreyu themselves were being called a vampire obsessed band, sporting two records each with one track talking about vampires.

I think with this song, an A Vampire's Lament off the first record, aren't to do directly with vampires but using them as a metaphor... In the Anne Rice books, both Lestat and Magnus are quoted in saying that they're monsters and have no need nor want fro human emotions... And with this song, I think Alex is trying to paint the picture that the character of the song has in fact become a 'monster' and is devoid of emotions and has become ashamed of what he is! (refernece to the mirror line).

AFI – Kill Caustic Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with welliguess42, theclashedsucked and most other emo haters, are drawn into this understanding that emo (emotional music) is just about cutting wrists and feeling sorry for yourself...
Maybe, in order to heal, you need to go into a period of reflection, and maybe cry about what's gone wrong in order to heal, but that does NOT, and I repeat NOT make it 'gay' in theclashsucked words, or crap.
Emo's tag has now become a burden or an insult in the arsenal of people's vocabulary and I don't understand why... This is a fucking great song sung by a fucking great singer in a fucking great band! That is all.

Funeral for a Friend – Storytelling Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this is a song definitely about break up, references to: 'You say it's not going to work out', 'I'm leaving
Do me a favour don't even think of me now'
But also isn't the line, 'You should've said that he'd be happy now' actually 'You should've said that we'd be happy now' says it in the booklet!?

Funeral for a Friend – 10:45 Amsterdam Conversation Lyrics 19 years ago
This is my line by line explanation, dispute it if you wish.

Water broken voice, saturates a microphone: the bad news (maybe the break up) are said, and the water broken voice is the crying talk of both of the people.

into a reciever with no tongue: incapable of speech

offering, little what it knows: don't know what to say

Then a silence so heavy, broken hearts fall from throats: since neither of the people know what to say, there's an heavy silence in the call, and the broken hearts fall from throats, is the realisation of the news that's been said, the ache you get in your throat when you're crying or about to...

when heaven is remembered but never seen: heaven could be the thing that's the person's now lost, and since it is lost, it can only be remembered and it can never be seen anymore.

through hearts shaped like kaleidoscopes: (altough this is probably a continuation of the previous line) where a heart get tainted or distorted views of things... maybe?

Eternaly, the sun has set to mourning: the sun being the joy and now its set and mourns because the person involved has lost that sunshine in their life and is mourning over it.

and contoured are the backgrounds on the canvas to which our lives are painted: (had to put it together to make sense of it) Maybe saying at how lives are contoured with ups and downs, peaks and valleys if you will, and our lives are a multitude of these peaks and lives.

Of course, this is only my opinion so disputes are welcome.

Funeral for a Friend – 10 Scene Points To The Winner Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the "ink stained fingers promise everything and nothing" is either
1, for the relationship idea: the effect of trying so hard in this relationship with the person that he loves but it can either bring him the happiness he wants (everything) or the relationship's demise that's possible (nothing).
2, for the scene kid idea: the ink on the fingers is how they dress themselves, make up or their material possessions and at how these give them the security in who they are (everything) or that they use so much of this ink, the make up, to hide what they're ashamed of... (nothing).
Anyone agree?
