Thanks for posting the lyrics to this gorgeous song. I hear the lyrics as: "All I've wanted just sped right past me While I was rooted fast to the earth I could be stuck here for a thousand years Without your arms to drag me out" and then: "All this fear falls away to leave me naked" This is what I've concluded after listening to it repeatedly ever since it became available. I can't get enough of it. Are there other songs on the soundtrack? I sure wouldn't know. ;) |

| Snow Patrol – When I Get Home For Christmas Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I love how Gary Lightbody can turn even a Christmas song into a just-short-of-depressing love offering. He's anxious to get home to repair a relationship he's screwed up. He's prepared to do anything this girl wants him to no matter how embarassing or seemingly emasculating. I like the desperation of the lyrics. It's amusing how he tries to convince her she misunderstood him when he confessed love for someone else but insists he actually only wanted to hold her hand. I don't buy that. I don't think she would either. I feel sort of bad for him since he's so earnest, but I'm left to wonder if he really wants her back or just doesn't want to be all alone on Christmas... I adore this tune. The sleigh bells jingling in the background are just perfect. |

| The Reindeer Section – Sting Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| My immediate interpretation was this girl wants to have sex with him and she's anxious to get him alone. He'd like to let her, but he knows it's not right (she could be his friend's girlfriend or something...) so he fears doing anything ("moving") to make her think he's trying to make a pass for her. Maybe when he says "itch" he's not saying she's annoying but that she's something he feels he *needs* to scratch or that she's under his skin despite his efforts to not think about her. The Police's "Don't Stand So Close To Me" comes to mind--obviously without the teacher/student relationship, but the idea of wanting something you can't have and struggling to resist. | |
| The Reindeer Section – If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet Lyrics | 19 years ago |

'Likewise I said it first/Credit where it is due' I'm going to state the obvious and assume he was the first to say "I love you." 'The true love in your eyes/Is stronger when they are closed'-- I remember reading an interview with Gary Lightbody about SP's Eyes Open, and he talked about the album's running theme of "eyes open" having to do with honesty b/c he feels truthfulness is found in another's eyes. Maybe his love for the subject is unrequited. She pretends to love him and says she does just to appease him. When her eyes are open and looking at him, he can tell that she doesn't return his love for her, but when her eyes are closed he can imagine her loving him as much. |
