I think this song is talking about a relationship which was built on a very weak and destructible foundation. This is shown in "the things we laid do not amount to much / made of abandoned wood loose stones and such", showing how neither put in enough effort to really build a strong relationship. There also seems to be a lot of reference to fighting or conflict between the two, probably what he means by "this revolution baby / proves who you work for lately" being that she literally works to make the relationship difficult. Again, this making it hard to build a strong companionship. The "the things we laid do not amount to much / made up of thought balloons and cotton swabs" could mean how the relationship has a lack of communication, and both feel things that they are too prideful or unconcerned about to share. The fire burning the walls that symbolize their relationship also indicates conflict, and it becomes clear in the last verse that at least one of the two is looking for companionship elsewhere outside of the relationship: "a motorcade of 'meant to be's’ parades of beauty queens...will win by keeping me from speaking to my new darling" obviously one is distracted by beautiful women who could potentially replace the one they are with. It seems by the end that this girl whom he perceived as an angel was actually not at all "that's when it turned on me where bobby pins hold angel wings", becoming the sole reason for his interest in others. He was apparently misled into a relationship that he believed would be awesome but never really became much, probably enveloping what would become his future foe; however, despite all of the complications we are constantly assured that "it's alright". Theres my 2 cents! |

Well first of all I am not "emo", but I appreciate music where the artists put a lot of time and energy to make a song both aesthetically pleasing and meaningful--like this one. I believe the first verse is about a guy who is visiting a lost love's (girlfriend or wife's) grave whom committed suicide. He is at her grave drinking in his depression while she is there in spirit form (This night, walk the dead), explaining the plural form of people when the searchlights find "them". Obviously the chorus is about how much the guy misses the girl, and the second verse portrays the guy trying to seek justification for what caused his love to kill herself.: asking questions like "Did you get what you deserve? Is this what you always want me for?" ... Just my opinion. |

| AND, to those of you who were wondering what the morse code at the beginning of "image of the imvisible" meant, as I was, this website (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vheissu) says that the morse code spells out the albums name: Vheissu. It also explains how Thrice came up with their album name. Pretty interesting! | |

| Ok, first of all, if you want to debate the meaning of this song, or any song, you have chosen the wrong website. To say what this song means to you is awesome, and I enjoy reading what people have to say and what the song means to them, and then try and listen to it from their perspective, but to say that someone's opinion is wrong is pretty bad. Read the text right above the box you write your comments in... it says "What does this song mean to you?" Not what the band said it meant, not what he or she said it meant, but what it meant to you. Enjoy the song for its complexity and its ability to mean so many things to so many different people. Never put someone down for the meaning they pull out of it, for that is what makes the song so important to them. | |
