The Walkmen – I Lost You Lyrics 16 years ago
Unrequieted love? "Throw me a line" makes me think he's desperate for any sign that she feels similarly or is begging her to be with him. "A trumpet and a trombone, Still echoing in the hall, And bells ringing out at dawn" memories of her that he can't get rid of? Maybe.

Fionn Regan – Snowy Atlas Mountains Lyrics 16 years ago
This is my joint favourite song of all time.
I always associate it with 'The Wasp Factory' by Iain Banks because I had it on repeat the whole four days I sat reading it. It even fits with the character for me in certain parts "My jumper is soaked in pig's blood" and just the general feeling of isolation you get from the song. I can't wait to hear his new album.

Andrew Bird – Masterswarm Lyrics 16 years ago
It took such a long time but Noble Beast eventually grew on me and this, amongst Not A Robot, Anonanimal & Souverian, is one of my favourites.
He's an incredible lyricist, obviously. Always manages to create about ten layers of meaning for me. I love the line "this is sure to misspell disaster" but I love this song mostly for the actual music. Perfect.

Norah Jones – The Long Way Home Lyrics 16 years ago
This is such a lovely song and Norah's voice only makes it more beautiful.
Always thought it was "got a HEAD full of lightning..." huh...

Maxïmo Park – Postcard of a Painting Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this one, incredible. Paul Smith is a poet!
It's basically about the speaker wanting to be with someone who is messing them around/has commitment issues ("Why can't we say goodbye in public?")
"I'm losing more than I'll ever have" - he sounds like he was seriously into this person.
Soundtrack to my life!

Peter Broderick – Below It Lyrics 16 years ago
Gorgeous song.
I always heard "eight legs" at the beginning...? I was thinking the 'screaming girls' were scared of a spider? Could be wrong.

Jeff Buckley – Sweet Thing Lyrics 16 years ago
Love this version...it's really uplifting and pretty.
He does add his own lyrics in somewhere though, right?

My favourite line - "And I shall drive my chariot
Down your streets and cry
'hey, it's me, I'm dynamite
And I don't know why"

My favourite song of all time. I actually have nothing else to say.

Broken Social Scene – Shampoo Suicide Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is incredible...I love all the different layers and how the lyrics are barely intelligible for the most part...like they're being whispered. It fits that scene in Half Nelson so perfectly.

Regina Spektor – Scarecrow and Fungus Lyrics 19 years ago
Are you people crazy? Why has nobody added a comment?! But anyway...I love this song, Regina's voice is so beautiful...especially when she sings "I don’t know what I'm doing still here
They must have done such a very very good job…
I don’t know what I'm doing still here
They must have done such a very very good job…
uh"
Love it.
