just elaborating on what ChuckNorrisZombie said above. the saying 'keep it on wax' pretty much translates to "I don't like you and you don't like me, but let's not allow whatever disagreements we have to spill out into the real world where one or both of us might get hurt." keep it on wax = keep your disagreements strictly in the music |

| what a genius song... they're basically talking to all the groupies, saying 'you have no idea who we are in real life, so stop acting like you wanna get with us'... Em's part in this song might be my favorite couple verses of his out of anything he's done | |

to me this song is a metaphor about the band themselves, about how they never want to be any big corporate success with their faces all over everything: "I know what lies beneath, I've seen the flash of teeth" - in other words, they know that under it all there's a very ugly to fame and fortune, and they've had every fake person trying to make money off them (maybe the flash of teeth is the fake smile of some marketing guy). "Conspiring with the reef to sink our ship" - they don't trust people like that, because they could easiley just be looking to make some cash off the band while they're popular and then completely f*ck them over (sink their ship). "Know tonight we'll make our bed, at the bottom of the sea." - even if it makes things a lot harder for them, they're going to keep their integrity and do things their own way. "Look and see the sky turn red" - basically he's saying, if we ever become that annoying overrated band that's all over the radio and tv, that'll be the end of the world (the sky turning red). Just my thoughts on the song, but I think it all makes sense, since they really are a band that does things their own way, even if it means they'll never be the biggest band in the world. |
