this is my first post here ever. haha. i actually first heard this song not too long after hearing that someone i cared about was really sick. and then the last stanza seemed to make sense to me. the first two verses are pretty straightforward. he loves the girl and wants to do anything for her. "I wish we could open our eyes to see in all directions at the same time Oh what a beautiful view if you were never aware of what was around you and it is true what you say that I live like a hermit in my own head but when the sun shines again I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in" this is the part where it changes. he's wishing he could see more and wishes the girl would see everything around her, like she's missing something. then he admits he's a hermit but will only open up when the light comes. "Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound but while you debate half empty or half full it slowly rises your love is gonna drown" death seems to be an important theme in 'plans'. we see it in 'soul meets body', 'i will follow you into the dark', 'what sarah said', etc. with that in mind the last stanza, to me, is him explaining that yes there is something wrong with him, he is sad and when the girl is sad with him (the sorrow in her heard) it's comforting. but at the same time it's not (half empty, half full) and while she's sorrow her love, which is what he needs to most to get through whatever it is be it sickness or depression, is drowning and he wants that to change. with that the first two verses make sense. he loves her so much, he'll do anything for her. it's her love that he wants. something slightly different but hey! |
