I'm pretty sure that this song is about the things that hold people and relationships together, as opposed to the much more common theme of writing songs that ask "why did we break apart?". Lines like "let me scrub that brackish line" and "how your body still remembers things you told it to forget, how those furious affections follow you" can attest to this. It's about the shared experiences, the give and take that bind people into their relationships. |
