OH! I just thought of this. And it makes sense. But if it has any correlation to the entire 1. Outside album, well then, I simply do not know. I think person it could be about a guy who has suffered a loss (wife, girlfriend or lover dying) and this song is about how he feels. Perhaps this dead woman is Miranda. And then this Ramona character is the new “interested” lover on the scene. He is attracted to her, but can’t help but feel like he is cheating on his dead partners (Miranda’s) memory. He has perhaps lived in with this Ramona, and she’s gotten into his head and Miranda’s old clothes trying to be her. Thus is he asking his father (I don’t know why, but I call my father “Paddy”) for help and support (“will you carry me, I think I’ve lost my way”) in telling other family to leave him alone in “a fantastic death abyss”? In the end, he tells Ramona “if only there’s something between us” – as an excuse to run off and away from the situation he has found himself in. Falling in love with another after the passing of a loved one is, in my eyes, the hearts filthy lesson. “Always a diamond friendly” – there will always be someone other bright gem (person) around for you, even after the death of a loved one. There. Take that meaning. |

*ahem* Here begins my story as to WHY this song is my LIFE at the moment. Some time in June, 2006, I broke up with my long term partner (two and a half years - maybe a little more). I was young (17) and had a few "positives" if you get what I mean. We broke up soon after this, I never told him why. I thought I was fine. It wasn't. And then one day, it hit me just what he means to me. And it was too late. He had another girl. I went to a real lowly point in my life. I couldn't see a positive in it - in her. I still can't. This is the man I am sure I want as my husband. Call me crazy, but I want the world with him. I still do. He knows why we broke up now. We can still talk, laugh and have a good time. But it breaks my heart all over again when he leaves me to kiss her goodnight. This song speaks to me in masses. I still see him with her, and can't stand it when they touch, or kiss. I like the song, and I too, heard it was written just after a break up. Power to her. The last part "Now the war is over/Mussolini's dead..." is a game that children in the WW1 period would sing after the war ended. They would sing this while playing jump rope, which is why we can hear the rope in the back ground. Mussolini was a close ally of Hilter in the 1st World War, if I'm not mistaken. I like the tune, recently during exams, I couldn't get it out of my head, and got in trouble for humming, which I didn't realise I was doing :( |

I think this song... could have been written in regards to an old lover who has let him/herself go. So he's saying whatever he/she does, it won't make him hate them, because he may still care. If in a romantic sense, I am unsure. I know this is off the Stupid Friday single, which MK basically recorded in his bedroom, if that sheds any light. If I see him next, I'd like to chat to him about his song meanings or any underlying meanings of particular lyrics, as he is a fun person to see live. |

This song really is very pretty, however I could never get into the Duran Duran version. I much prefer the Mandy Kane version, which I found purely by chance. In the Duran Duran song, I believe it to be a post break-up song, whcih adds personal meaning to that of thier fans. In MK's version, I feel it is about a lost lover. Very sentimental to me. |
