Leonard Cohen – Waiting For The Miracle Lyrics

airplanes - haha fantastic.
Yes, definitely about a man who realises that someone is in love with him and has waited patiently while he pisses about with his own delusions. I have the version from the Natural Born Killers s/t - always forget there are several more verses! |

Calexico – Yours and Mine Lyrics

Like the radio man says, it's about waiting for someone to make a decision to enter a relationship. They keep stalling, until the moment is long past and the time spent waiting is wasted. I'm not sure about the 'moment before the calm of the storm' part. |

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – The Ship Song Lyrics

For the singer and the subject to be together means breaking social boundaries, perhaps the subject's friends object, hence the bridges being burned. She's a mystery to him because he doesn't understand why she is attracted to him, and on each of the rare occasions that they meet, it's so significant that history is made.
Even though they discuss how they can't be together, and set out where they're coming from - ie their moral ground - they can't resist the tie that binds them. It's a really difficult situation, when you love someone, but everything dictates that you shouldn't be together. |

Iron & Wine – Jesus the Mexican Boy Lyrics

I don't know about digging into Christianity to explain this song. Sure there may be some metaphorical and even literal interpretations, but on the plain face of it, it's a beautiful narrative about a friendship where one feels moved to make a statement on the generosity of his fellow. I love the mellow pace. |

Maybe it is about having time to reflect in one's old age. I never thought of it like that before.
This is my most favourite FNM song. Just beautiful. |

Beth Orton – Sweetest Decline Lyrics

So, so sweet. There's a definite sense of melancholy, in a celebration of being, falling, becoming. I love the line, "You can't pin this butterfly down." It's about being free and independent and autonomous. |

Dinosaur Jr. – Get Me Lyrics

This song is just so great. The confused desparation in the lyrics, the meandering, grinding solos - this is about a person who is left hanging again and again. Oh how it resonates. |

The Dears – Lost In The Plot Lyrics

"It's the same old plot to these things"
To me, this is a lament on the way things always go to shit. Perhaps I'm projecting here ;)
At first, I thought the line said "It's the same old cutlery stains" haha |
