Thursday – Into the Blinding Light Lyrics 19 years ago
dvision st: thanks for mentioning that interview! Now I know I interpreted the lyrics quite correctly. What always strikes me about thursday's lyrics, is that even when I don't know or listen to the lyrics, I can still make up the main feeling of the song. The lyrics fit the music perfectly.

What do you think this song is about?

Personally, I think this is one of their most difficult lyrics to decipher. But after re-reading the lyrics several times, I've come up with an explanation:

Maybe this song is about adultery and temptation. About marital loyalty
(the rings come out of all the jacket pockets)
(the wedding crashes and the rings fall off, roll out the bedroom window)

"Like lies, like lipstick on last-look good-byes" adulterous affairs are often discovered by lipstick on collars and of course there's always a lot of lying and hiding involved

"Just make your body burst into single line when there's nothing left the heart rate crashes and the rings fall out as we turn each other into the blinding light"

Again wedding rings fall out and when your marriage is ruined, there's nothing left but adrenaline rushes with another lover.

White night coming down
Silent armies all around
Deep sleep covering
Enemies in clean white sheets" >

I see a couple sleeping after sex, the night is still white from the blinding light they have engaged in (blinding light as a metaphore for the bliss and oblivion which unfaithful sex gives them) and the silent armies = all the people who would disapprove.

"(the sky went off-white, it snowed for fourteen years the sunlight splintered into all our darkest fears)"

after discovery by the husband/wife, the relationship turns cold for a long time and the blinding light that the adulterous spouse has created, makes all fears come true.

maybe it's too far-fetched, but in my opinion it makes sense:)
