No, it's not about NO and Katrina, well it could be...but it's more about Detroit and generally about run down cities (so I guess you could include NO). According to CC. |

Wow, this song to me has always had two meanings. It could be like what everyone is saying: that the man is strong enough not to allow this girl to change him. However, I would have to agree with sc25, it could also be that he hates the fact that he can't be changed. He is so messed up that even a women who has the power to change the world can't change him. |

Oxymorons are the coolest thing; they have so much meaning. As of now, my favorite song on SA. First time I heard it, I felt like I heard it before...which was weird but nevertheless amazing. |

Agree with the idea of a one-sided relationship. But just have to say, this is by far one of the most amazing vocal performances. He sings every line amazingly in this song. |

CC is amazing. I gotta agree with what everyone's getting at. To me, I always saw it as he wants to get away from where ever he is...he wanted to burn this place to get rid of it, but instead used the gasoline to drive far away. I also like what nykspree8 said. Sometimes driving without a destination releases a lot of anger, I dunno why. Great guitar throughout. |

I would have to agree that this song is about sharing your good luck/wealth (not to be greedy...), the lyrics aren't their best. But, with that said, this song is amazing musically and vocally. Drums, bass, and guitar are all great here. And I love the Cornell low voice with his own high backing vocals; reminds me of some of his SG like 4th of July. |

maybe the beginning is just a metaphor...cause it goes on to say 'underneath the arch' and it turned 'into a march'...so it might not be refering to any religious figure, but some activist. Again, could be MLK, or any activist. |
