I think Im here right with my gf now so this makes it kinda hard but I think i get what the song is about here it goes times gone by fast and the relationship may be ending as they've come to a problem they are at different places and have unsure and unequal feeling and they dont know where to go from there as they hope what they have is strong enough to keep them going come to think of it i really dont know either thts life thts all

Fact is fact and the inspiration behind the story is most likely the mentoring a drug addicted friend (as on the bands' website) but taking it metaphorically (haha is there any other way?) in an attempt to interpret and apply it to other scenarios to me the alternative is an ultimatum and the struggle of staying true to yourself while he/her makes a decision and confront his issues

i really agree with michelle B in the sense that you do reject the good in attempt to find the perfect . however the search is usually in vain as anyone who knows anything realizes a successful relationship takes time and commitment which usually gives you something that you wouldnt trade for anyone anyways about the song I think its got a very catchy hook and the tempo def helps accent the story of giving up a great gurl for the odds and regreting it

seriously the coolest song when in a great realtionship had to add my cents in here "They knock you down I’ll pick you up... They laugh at you I’ll shut them up" guys this is how you should handle things with ur gf's anyways to me this song is about a speacial guy in girls life (from the guys perspective) who is a total crutch as he does what ever is possible to help her through the ups and downs my take is a livelong realtionship its funny i get the dawsons creek vibe from this song the climbing up, secrets, and just growing up with someone thick and thin thats it

I have to concur with amberloves' second intuition whereas i think this song is about the bitter inevitable end of a relationship in the sense that he wants to give more but fate/fame has different plans "It’s hard to wave goodbye from airplanes" and "A phone call from LA is my present There’s nothing left for me to give" Its a song about the last reminiscence of a relationship which was too little too late and how he hated leaving her thats my take anyways another great song by SC
