Creeping Lovely – I'm Not Ready Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a beautiful song. I love the simplicity of the acoustic guitar combined with the rich sound of the cello. The vocalist has a sweet voice, and has very good control of her instrument. I interpret the song to be about an unhealthy relationship in which one feels trapped, and she isn't sure why she allows herself to be treated this way.

Natalie Merchant – River Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a beautiful song. It's about River Phoenix's tragic and untimely death. I've loved this song ever since I first bought the Tigerlily cassette tape (yes, that long! hehe)

Jewel – Painters Lyrics 19 years ago
I can't sing along without crying a little, either. Especially the part "And how he seemed to hold her when she was crying"...gets me every time.

Jewel has a lovely way of conveying emotion with her voice. And her lyrics are breathtaking. I also love how the key of her guitar goes from major to minor when the song takes the sad turn. You know something bad is coming, with just a simple shift in music.

Evanescence – The Last Song I'm Wasting on You Lyrics 19 years ago
(continuation of above post)
I think the next part "Any more than a whisper/any sudden movement of my heart/and i know, i know i'll have to watch them pass away" means that she had to walk on eggshells, watch everything she said, every move she made, or else this time he might kill her. She'll have to watch as her vision fades to black.

A different interpretation of the first verse has been suggested on Evthreads.

When someone is choking, their vision starts to fade out. They start to see colors, then gray and just sparkling shapes. "Sparkling Grey"

Then, when their eyes close, the light on their eyelids allows them to see the veins in their eyelids.
"Then My Own Veins"

I think she's describing what she was seeing when someone was trying to choke her.
"You held me down and screamed you wanted me to die"...

credit goes to Heliosis on Evthreads for this explanation.

I love this outro. The vocals on this track are the same as the background vocals in Solitude. :)

Evanescence – Eternal Lyrics 19 years ago
"the beginning sounds like the ending of away from me"

yep it's the same...and also, the end of the song is the same as "Fields of Innocence", at a slower tempo

The Goo Goo Dolls – Name Lyrics 19 years ago
I've always interpreted it as a brother and sister that were orphaned at a young age. the brother goes on to live a stable life, but the sister kind of loses it and she has a tough time...maybe moves to hollywood and tries to become an actress, maybe gets into trouble with drugs or drinking or sex, depression and self injury...basically loses all her dreams and loses herself. the song is from the brother's perspective trying to tell his sister that yes, you've had a hard life...but it'll be ok, just come stand beside me and you'll survive...and i won't tell anyone your secrets.

Tori Amos – Time (Tom Waits cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
i love this song....but i haven't the faintest clue what it means. it's really interesting imagery, though, isn't it? and it's sung with such emotion. i would like to hear others' thoughts on it

Evanescence – The Last Song I'm Wasting on You Lyrics 19 years ago
now, this song....it's amazing to me. the lyrics are so powerful and amy's voice is just heart-wrenching. i love the experimental vocal techniques she uses...they add a lot of emotion to the song.

it absolutely breaks my heart...the things someone has to go through to write something like this, and sing it with such raw emotion. unfortunately, i can relate to this song very much...and having been in an abusive relationship myself, my heart goes out to her.

i just want to say one small thing in regard to purplestatment's comment.

no one can know what goes on between two people except those two people. i don't believe i've read anything where amy said that ben hates her, nor have i seen ben say anything about hating or not hating her. but either way, what a person says in public can differ very much from the truth.

and i don't believe that "what amy is doing to shaun and ben" is terrible. she's not doing anything to them...in fact, she refuses to reveal that any of the songs are about them when she is asked, she says she will not answer. sure, it's obvious what some of the songs are about, but she isn't damaging their public reputations any more than they do themselves. she writes these songs to get them out..to free herself from the feelings surrounding those situations. she really doesn't care about attention, and she's certainly not looking for sympathy. it's easy to see from the lyrics that she's just fine with herself now, and she doesn't need anything from anyone.

i think the ben/amy debate should end..it's so old. ben is no longer a part of evanescence nor is he a part of amy's life. that's it

"If I cut you down to a thing I can use, I fear there will be nothing good left of you."

i think that means once she gets what she wants out of him, she won't want him anymore. used goods

Joshua Kadison – Beautiful In My Eyes Lyrics 19 years ago
this is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. it's made me cry on more than one occasion. it's about loving someone so truly, that no matter what happens or even when they're old and wrinkly, they'll still be beautiful in your eyes.

Flyleaf – Believe In Dreams Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that it's saying believe in yourself, believe in your dreams, don't waste your life living in the past...even though i wish i could go back and save the child that i was, tell her it would all be ok, i can't buy time...so I will move forward.

Flyleaf – Penholder Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song means that she feels guilty taking the credit for writing her songs, because it's really God that creates through her...she just holds the pen.

She feels like she doesn't deserve all the praise and recognition she gets, because it's not her that does it, it's God
