It's useless, you will never get it. (Not that it didn't cost me a lot, and perhaps many conditions exterior to myself have helped me to be able to see things in a different way) You would have to be a little crazy to understand it, and by Europe's or North America's standards you would need to be a bit more distant from "normal" behaviour. I don't by any means whatsoever mean to imply that I haven't had some of the attitudes I have called stupid. But I think It is a very important thing to be able to recognize ones own mistakes. This is the basis to try to improve yourself and your surroundings. I don't think it is the aim of the song to insult anybody, but rather to open the listeners eyes, which of course might result a bit hard if they don't understand what they are being told. |

I don't think any of you have actually understood the meaning of this song. It is actually quiet direct, because it has to. The machine symbolizes society in it's most ample way. The subject in the song is welcomed to the machine, and is told that EVERYTHING he did in his childhood and adolescence was that which was expected of him. It is pretty dpressing since it it telling you that all rebel behviour isn't actually so. It is made part of the machine, they even make profit with all the stupid people buying guitars tu punish their mas, and hating school, and thinkin they're nobody's fool when they are. I mean, these people have to BUY their guitars and specially buy stuff which they think will make them different, but actually is turning them into a specially profitable part of the market. nobody's fool, hah, my ass! Same thing for the second part of the song. This is not far fetched at all, it's right there in front of your eyes. Note the following: "You bought a guitar to punish your ma, and you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool, SO welcome to the machine. It says SO welcome, which clearly means that what was mentioned before is the cause for which he is now bein welcomed to the machine, even the guitar buying and the knowing you're no ones fool, unlike some have written. If you think I've taken too many rare substances (I'd like to point out that I havent. Never.) please write! I'd love to see my points comfronted. |

This song is about the power of youth, that feeling you have when you are a teenager that you are going to change the world, and that nothing can stop you. You literally want it all. It is definately not about selfishness! All those feelings are just normal, what would the world be without that young ideals and the strength to pursue them that only young people have! It may also contain some criticism on how society crushes down that strength. PS: It's also one of my fav songs! |

This song talks about something we all have inside (the bell that rings inside your mind), some sort of inherent magical sense (I´m hearing secret harmonies), that lets us know that things could be better, and that it's up to us (a golden glance of what should be). It could be seen as some sort of divine illumiantion, the feeling that makes you see that there is something greater, something eternal (lasts a thousand years, challenges the doors of time, the waiting seems eternity), that kind of sets the order of things, and through connecting with this kind of magic, you could have a glimpse of what should be. It also is optimistic since it says that rage will soon be done, and the day will dawn os sanity when the eternal wait ands. |

Everything said, the only thing i feel the need to point out is the following: Roger Waters was Pink Floyd's most important musician on the whole. Syd Barret sadly became nothing more than a drug barrel. Mason is in for the money, as he himself admitted. Rick Wright, during the recording of the Wish You Were Here album fled to Italy, and when Roger rang up to find out what had been of him ( they still had recording to do ) said he had enaugh money and that he was out for good. Afterwards he repented. And concerning David Gilmour, when they were working on Lapse of reason (1st watersless album) with Ezrin were told by many people (beacouse, you see, they asked various people to give them theyre opinios on the work in progress) that the music didn't sound floyd enaugh, so they completely changed the songs several times until they achived the desired "floyd" sound. What kind of artist who respects himself as such does this? That's all I have to say for the time being, if anyone disagrees, please make your voice heard, I´d love to talk about it. PS: Roger didn't steal nobody's work, and for the only reason he thaught pink floyd should be dissolved was because he felt that since that what bound them together had dissapeared, it would be sort of a lie to continue. |
