Dan Fogelberg – Same Old Lang Syne Lyrics 18 years ago
RE: What does everyone make of the ending when "the snow turned into rain?"

Most likely its a metaphor for tears. Or, it could also mean that she warmed up his life with this fleeting encounter and it turned his cold winter day warmer.

She brightened up his life once again, albeit only for a few hours.

Mad Season – River of Deceit Lyrics 18 years ago
Dear balanceislife,

I made it only to the first lines of the song, and as you concluded your interpretation of the first two lines, all credence you were trying to gain was thrown out the window.

Kiedis didnt write Higher Ground.

Now, on to the song.

As each line is delivered, the singer expresses regret for the way things in his life have gone, albeit mostly through his own hands. There is an acceptance of that in the lilt of his voice. Yet, there is in his eyes conceivably no way for him to rise up and overcome the way things have gone. So he tells the tale of the river that he himself has created, flowing and going down, ohhhh down. There is a chance he could overcome this river, but if he did he wouldnt be true to himself (Now I can grow a beautiful shell for all to see) and only make things they way others want it to be.

He wants you to know he is sorrowful, yet accepting of his destiny; to not let his fate be adjusted and let things happen as they come.

Beck – John The Revelator Lyrics 18 years ago
Actually, the original was written and performed by Son House. Nonetheless, all versions of this song by DM, The Blues Brothers, BWJ, and everyone else are all variations of the original Son House song.
