| The White Stripes – Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I fucking love this song. Pure poetry, everything in it. From the title, to the lyrics, to the raw sound, this song is pure poetry. |

| The Runaways – Strawberry Fields Lyrics | 19 years ago |
All0ygirl, you should chill out and try to think before typing next time. I think Iteration2 is right in his analysis. I'm not much of a Beatles fan, but I really love this song. I agree, it's about drugs, but it's also about living in your fantasy world and avoiding to see the truth, and how sometimes people do this collectively. "Living is easy with eyes closed." is the phrase that most stuck with me... it's so easy to put rosy-colored glasses and ignore the world's problems, or even your own personal problems. "misunderstanding all you see", could also further this point. People would rather ignore the world's problems and not care about those suffering... but rather keep living in their personal "strawberry fields". I think the song could also be seen from a romantic point of view... The girl is inviting him to her "dream"... but as the song progresses.. both realize is just a dream... an impossible reality they want to live in. The song invites you to live a dream. To escape from reality. But all of this in a sarcastic tone, perhaps to criticize those who live in their dreams too much. |

| Pink Floyd – The Great Gig in the Sky Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is just perfect. There are no words to describe how overwhelming is the feeling that we are all going to die some day... so that's why this song is without words. Just a series of screams, deep, full of anguish. This song is just saying... "death is so frightening and fantastic at the same time. It's beyond words." The title refers to going to "Heaven", which is "the great gig in the sky". Also, please stop with the Wizard of Oz already. I've done the thing, and the coincidences are not that amazing. It takes focus away from the song, which is way cooler. |
| Rage Against the Machine – Testify Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Easy meaning... the economic and political stablishment needs to "testify", because the evidence that they are not doing things right is all around us. "On the corner The jury's sleepless We found your weakness And its right outside your door" |
| Rage Against the Machine – Darkness (Of Greed) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
BenLee: Don't forget that this song refers to Africa. The US might do a lot to fight AIDS in its soil, but when it comes to providing aid to african nations, this "aid" often comes tied with harmful economic policies or conditions like importing retroviral drugs from the US over cheaper latin american or european alternatives. That's corporate welfare disguised as aid. I love this song. To me, this is one of the songs that draws the line between RATM and other bands. Other bands would just whine that we are not doing enough to help Africa. Rage denounces the very real european/US presence in africa and how we caused most of the mess in the first place. |

| Soda Stereo – Luna Roja Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Great explanations... specially the one from "thesoftboys". Now I understand this song =) |
| Pink Floyd – Eclipse Lyrics | 19 years ago |
JoSIe: I love "Us and Them" too! glad to see I'm not alone. =) Along with Time and Eclipse, the best songs of the album. I think this song is about life in general. It means that everything you do in life, all you see, and touch and feel, etc. will be happy and harmonious, "in tune", only if you manage to avoid "the moon", which represents all the negative energies in a person's life (insanity, depression, selfishness, envy, etc.).... If you manage to get "the moon" out of the way, you will be able to "enjoy the sun". (be happy) |
| Pink Floyd – Run Like Hell Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think this song has a double meaning. The literal meaning is simple: "Run like Hell because the fascist mobs will lynch you". The "hidden" meaning, however, is more complex and interesting: I think that, when the song says "run like hell", it's also telling the fascist haters to run. To run from their own fears. By attacking others, blaiming others, projecting their hate in another people, the members of the fascist mob are running from themselves, running from their own fears and reality. That's why it says "You better make your face up in your favorite disguise, with your button down lips and your roller blind eyes". The fascists are pretending to be fascists to hide their own fears and insecurities. This is also shown when the song says: "And keep your dirty feelings deep inside." ... Pink is trying to hide his true feelings by repressing them and hallucinating that he's a fascist. |
| Pink Floyd – Waiting for the Worms Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The literal meaning of this song is complete insanity and isolation from the outside world. Basically, Pink's insanity has reached rock bottom. The wall is finished. He has given up all hope, he has "let them bury the light", to use a quote from "Hey You" (where Pink has realized he's going insane but had not given up yet). That's why he's waiting for the worms to overtake him entirely. He has given up to the insane product of his mind, bigot fascist Pink. In more general sense, this song is also a strong criticism to fascism and other hate ideologies. Basically, this song shows us that most fascist and hateful leaders are that way because they have insane, twisted minds, and that their ideologies are the product of their attempts to proyect their fears and their inability to face reality, on others. ("the queers, the coons, the reds and the jews") When we cannot accept reality, when we cannot accept our own faults, we end up blaming others for our situation. Using scapegoats. This is what Pink is doing with his delusional self: He hates and blames the outside world for his situation, but he cannot realize that it's also his fault, and not only that of the outside world. |

| Soda Stereo – Primavera 8 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The Police – Walking On The Moon Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Being in love is so magical, we never want it to stop. It's like walking on the moon, or even better. Still, we know it's dangerous, because when it ends we can end up with a broken leg (heart). That's my take on this song. I agree with the other comments, specially with apcmdn13. |
| The Police – Message In A Bottle Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's about feeling lonely, without realizing that million others are feeling lonely too. And about our small, subtle, but desperate calls for attention, floating around like messages in a bottle... waiting for someone to pick them up. It's an aweasome song. |
| Wilco – I Must Be High Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| An argentinian luuuves the Wilco. And this tune. | |
| Wilco – How To Fight Loneliness Lyrics | 19 years ago |
wow... this song is really drags you down! so sad. I enjoyed the Martha Stuart story.... the presence of a song denouncing "fake attitudes" and empty smiles in a Martha Stuart CD is indeed ironic. |
| Wilco – Jesus, Etc. Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's such a simple and beautiful message... "don't worry about how bad things may be, we will always have our love to get us through the day". At the end of the day, love is all that matters... |
| Pink Floyd – Hey You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Like others said, I think it's about isolation, and "losing yourself", either to drugs, mental illness, alcohol or just plain old depression. This song is Pink's desperate cry for help... his mind calls him, but he's lost in the wall he has built around himself. He can't get back on his feet, even though a part of him wants to (the 'singer'). It's a wonderful song. If people could learn to overcome the barriers that divide them, this world would be a much better place. |
| Rage Against the Machine – War Within a Breath Lyrics | 19 years ago |
As others have pointed out, it's about the zapatistas' uprising and what we all should learn from their example. Everything can change on a new year's day. |
| Rage Against the Machine – The Ghost of Tom Joad (Bruce Springsteen cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song gives me chills down my spine. And it should be that way. The fact that the Ghost of Tom Joad's lyrics are still very valid in our world, the fact that there are still millions of "hungry newborn babies crying" should enrage us and horrify us. |
| Rage Against the Machine – Sleep Now In The Fire Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Rage Against the Machine is the most politically insightful, truthful, coolest, most aweasome rock band of the XX century. No band will ever surpass them, at least not in a *very* long time. I think this song is about the nature of greed and globalization... "there is no other pill to take, so swallow the one that made you ill" is definately a reference to Francis Fukuyama and his theory of the "end of history" and the unavoidability of free-market globalization (which is bullshit). Thank you Rage. There won't be another band as fucking amazing as this one. Thank you for being one of the few bands to have the balls to speak out against the system. The only band that managed to make the Wall Street Stock Market close earlier =) |
| Rage Against the Machine – Ashes in the Fall Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Definately one of my favourite Rage songs. I think this song is about economic globalization, the wave of free market reforms that were implemented since the 1980's all over the world. The chorus, "this is the new sound, just like the old sound", fits perfectly, for free market reforms were the return to the pre-WWII laissez-faire policies that left terribly high levels of social inequality, injustice, and political and economic power in the hands of a small corporate elite. "Aint it funny how the factorys doors close Round the time that the school doors close Round the time that the doors of the jail cells Open up to greet you like the reaper" Clearly this part refers to free-market policies in the west and the closing of factories to move production to sweatshops in the third world. Outsourcing, reduction of education funding, and the criminalization of poverty. This song is about poverty, unemployment and social inequality increasing thanks to economic policies that are made only for the benefit of the rich multinational corporations. This is about how the promises they've made about a new era of prosperity were broken. |
| Caesars – Jerk It Out Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it has a double meaning. The literal meaning it's about masturbation... but the "jerk it out" can also be understood as "letting yourself loose... not being uptight and enjoying yourself". It's a song that calls you to loosen up and enjoy yourself, because everything in life "is easy once you know how it's done". The dog interpretation also fits very well. |
| Ska-P – Intifada Lyrics | 19 years ago |
How could David be Goliath? How can the State of Israel, after the horrific things that happened in the Holocaust, do a similarly discriminatory opression of its palestinian population? This is what this song speaks about. In support with the Palestinian intifada. |
| Ska-P – Mis Colegas Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's about drugs legalization. The point of the song is that the law usually makes matters worse by treating addicts as "criminals", "outlaws" and by leaving them out of the system. This song calls us to stop ignoring the problem and advocate legalization. After all, prohibition is "just a bussiness", it's there to keep drug prices, and thus druglords' profits, high. |
| Ska-P – Solamente Por Pensar Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's a song against globalization and fascistoid police repression. Carlo Giuliani was brutally murdered by the Italian police in a 2001 anti-globalization protest. He was murdered just because he protested. Just because, as the song says, he dared to think for himself. |
| ABBA – The Winner Takes It All Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Almost everytime a relationship is formed, someone else is left behind. This is what this song is about. It's such an amazing and sad song. |
| Blondie – One Way or Another Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I used to thought it was simply about a crush, until I finally payed attention to the lyrics. It's definately about a stalker. It's creepy. Yet, it's still cool. I like it. |
| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Iron Lion Zion Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Both muffinhead and Goldrocker are right. I think it's a reference to rasta beliefs (Zion is Ethiopia, the 'promised land', while the Lion is the Lion of Judah, Haile Selassie I), but it's also a reference to his assasination attempt, he had to "run like a fugitive" by exiling from Jamaica, to save his life as a rebel of Jamaica's political system. I think the "I'm gonna be Iron like a Lion in Zion" also kinda means "I'm going to be brave and worthy", like Haile Selassie was. Marley is encouraging himself to be brave and keep forward. I think. |
| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Africa Unite Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Marley, folling his rasta, pan-african ideals, advocates for the unity of all Africans. Only in unity will the third world find freedom. |
| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Could You Be Loved? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Or best song ever as a whole =) | |
| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Could You Be Loved? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
A song and a philosophy to live to. Let your life and actions be inspired by love. Accept the love that others offer you, and learn to love back. Don't be resentful, be understanding. Don't be afraid to care and to get involved. ("say something") This and "Iron, Lion, Zion", best Marley songs ever. |
| Amos Lee – Colors Lyrics | 19 years ago |

So depressing... so beautiful... so true. Speaks for itself. For anyone that has ever fallen in love and things didn't work out, this song hits right at home. |
| Jamiroquai – Drifting Along Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| We've all been there... just chillin... with no worries, plans or destination. Not knowing where we are going but enjoying the ride there. | |
| Jamiroquai – Travelling Without Moving Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it's about technology advancing so fast that causes us to be going from one place to another without really stopping-by and enjoying life. I loooove listening to this song while driving! I am travelling without moving, after all. |
| Leonard Nimoy – The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The funniest and most bizarre song ever. Period. | |
| The White Stripes – Blue Orchid Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I can't be arsed to read all the comments here, so I'll just give my interpretation: It's about a relationship, in which the singer is in love/interested in the girl and does things for her, but she does not show the same level of interest, and manipulates him. (turning the orchid blue...his feelings?) The girl pretends that she doesn't love him back, but the singer conforts himself by thinking that at least "she had a reaction"... meaning that she *must* have some secret feelings for him. In any case, the white stripes rock! |
| System of a Down – Ego Brain Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't think it's *only* about war, but about egoism and ego-centrism altogether as the cause of all human conflicts, pain and misunderstanding. It could also be a about a relationship that failed, again, due to egoism. Or maybe that's because the first time I heard that song I was going through a tough break up... who knows? It's a song very open to interpretation.... (though it's definetly *not* about drugs =D ) |
| System of a Down – Streamline Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It could be about drugs, it could be about the armenian genocide, it could be about war, it could be about the death of a family member... the listener interprets the song however they like. What we can all agree with is that: * it's about the death or leaving of a loved one (whatever the circumstances) * the singer feels somewhat guilty about it, since he "was not there" when the terrible thing happened *It's a fucking amazing song. The lyrics really hit you home and can move you to tears. |

Tema escrito en honor a Alberto Olmedo, comediante argentino. Tenia un show infantil llamado el "capitan piluso", de ahi el titulo. Es un tema muy lindo y triste. Written in honour to the late argentine comedian Alberto Olmedo, who had a children's show called "captain piluso", hence the title. It's a very beautiful and sad song. |

| The Dust Brothers – This is your life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The most amazing song from the most amazing movie of these years. Like the movie, this song is an intelligent criticism of the shallow, consumerist society we are living in. A society in which money and possesions, instead of words and actions, are the reference which people use to define who they are and what their status in society will be. A society based, as tyler durden puts it, on "getting jobs you hate to buy shit that you don't need". Everybody should watch Fight Club, it has an amazing message behind all the "violence" that offended the critics so much, and after that, everybody should get the soundtrack, 'coz it's the most amazing movie soundtrack *ever*. The Dust Brothers rock! |
| Thievery Corporation – Lebanese Blonde Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Eric Hilton and Rob Garza are two geniuses. The way they meld different styles! I agree with whoever said this song is perfect for getting stoned... I can feel stoned just by listening it! |
| Thievery Corporation – The Outernationalist Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Amazing song, I named myself after it =) It's a tribute to Ras Tafari Makonnen, Jah, God of the rastafarians. I love the rythm too... so soothing, yet so inspiring. |
| Pantera – This Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me, it's about a relationship that ended, a relationship in which both got hurt, yet he also admits his love to be selfish and obsessive. He's still hooked on and has feelings for her, but he's fed up of those feelings. Plus, aren't the guitars with the panther roar in the background fucking aweasome? |
| Thievery Corporation – Revolution Solution Lyrics | 19 years ago |
A political and life manifiesto against conformism. The message is to always try to change and improve things, making revolutions literally and metaphorically. |
| Gotan Project – Época Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love Gotan Project! They are an amazing blend of styles! To me, this song refers to the argentinian 1976-83 dictatorship... if you think about it, it makes sense.. "si desaparecio, en mi aparecerá creyeron que murio, pero renacerá" The "dissapeared thing" may refer to a person (victims of repression were called desaparecidos, or "dissapeared"), or, more generally, to the ideals of the 1970's generation, which were also forcefully dissapeared, but bound to return "renacer"... The "rumor de pañuelo blanco" could be a reference to the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, which use white scarves as a symbol of their fight. In any case, it's a wonderful song. |
| Gustavo Cerati – Tabu Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Es sobre los sacrificios, valentia y coraje que nos da el amor. El cantante cuenta como consiguio el valor para hacer eso que el consideraba imposible, todo por una mujer. |
| Thievery Corporation – The Richest Man In Babylon Lyrics | 19 years ago |
a great song... literally... it's about unfairness, explotation and social inequality in the socio-economic system our world is living in. Taking in account that the song was released pretty much close to the US invasion to Iraq (the territory where the old Babylon used to stand), it could also be seen as a direct criticism to the Bush regime. |
| Jethro Tull – Mother Goose Lyrics | 19 years ago |
yeah... I missed them too when they came to argentina! =( This song makes no sense to me... it seems to be about a fair or circus, but it must also have another meaning... In any case, it has a lovely flute and a very happy, feel-good tune. I love it. |
