OK, time to drop some real time knowledge here. Anybody who knows my handle, marginal man, will know I speak the truth. And you are all right, the song is about the objectification of women. But it goes deeper and more hardcore than that: in the late 1980s, before the song was put to a recording studio, the song was titled "Rape" and that is also the title on Fugazi's first demo tape, of which I have copy. I saw Fugazi in the late 180s several times before they shot to worldwide undergound fame, including once when they were atill a trio, minus Guy. This song, I believe, could be one of the most enjoyable, yet powerful political at the same time. I have not seen Fugazi since like 1995, so I do not know if they still do it live, but it is mesmerizing, and much longer, on stage. I'd like to see more discussion about this one. |

Hate to be so literal because I love the discussions on this site, but Natalie Maines said from the stage in Atlantic City they wrote the song for their kids. The comment drew a collective, warming , "Awwww!" to which Maines and the girls grinned in almost embarassment. Then Maines said, half jokingly, "How could anybody hate us?" |

You cannot ignore the political and war themes in this song, but taken into context of what the DXC have gone through since 2003, I believe the song is, indeed, about simply escaping into the comfort of a loved one, to that special place when you don't have to speak and communication is natural. I can see the DXC having to do this a lot to duck the storm that rained down on them after the Bush incident. It's no doubt my favorite song they have ever done, to date, and it gave me chills when I saw them recently in Atlancic City. A Maines singing masterpiece. |

| The Chicks – Cowboy Take Me Away Lyrics

This song was written by Dixie Chick Martie Maguire, who at the time was Martie Seidel, along with a songwriter named Marcus Hummon. According to interviews I have seen, and backed up by the web, Martie wrote the song for her sister inthe band, Emily Robison, who was getting married. The song's title and inspiration some from the 1970's commercial and then saying, "Calgon Take Me Away."
