I agree with the comments about how the song concerns feminity. The "pretty pink ribbon" is a symbol of restraint that is expected of women (to be innocent, nurturing, soft spoken, etc) but it also offers some advantages of being female (getting free tickets, for example). There are some references to feminist literature: "You'd float down to the sea" could be a reference to The Awakening by Kate Chopin, where the protagonist frees herself of an oppressive society by drowning herself in the sea. "Without the room that you live in" might be an allusion to "A Room of One's Own" by Virginia Woolf. |
