Apocalyptica – I Don't Care (feat. Adam Gontier) (US/Revised Version) Lyrics 17 years ago
When I originally heard this song, I thought it was about a neglected or abandoned son talking to and about his father. In the first verse(s), he sounds as though he's referring to the coping process of the problems that came as a result of not having his dad around. The chorus was him telling his father, wherever he was, that he didn't need him anyway, and that he didn't care whatever happened to him.

The verses before the bridge sounded like an actual confrontation that might have taken place either before the father left, or when the boy was older, and he had to come to terms with the fact that they'd never have a relationship...

This is all a huge stretch, and the 'boyfriend pissed at his girlfriend' idea makes much more sense when you actually sit down and read the lyrics. But I thought I'd drop my two cents anyway.

Sin With Sebastian – Shut Up and Sleep With Me Lyrics 18 years ago
This song sounds like it's about a gay guy who wants to have sex with a closet case. Look at the lyrics:

"I love your body, not so much I like your mind
In fact you´re boring, *pretend not being of my kind*
You keep on talking of *some girl that I don´t know*"

He wants to go to bed with a guy who claims he's straight and has a girlfriend.

I have no idea where the whole idea of religion came from... :\

Orgy – Dramatica Lyrics 19 years ago
To be honest, I always thought this song was about a guy who realizes his lover’s cheating on him, and he resorts to extremes. The kind of cocky way Jay sings the verses sounds as though he might be being questioned by a police officer of sorts.

“Imagine you as me and I’ll tell you... just what was on my mind that night.”

If you read it line-by-line and think of it this way, everything sort of makes sense (‘I caught their sparkle from the runway’ could be taken as him first catching a glimpse of his lover smiling a certain way at another man, and he could sense the static between them). But this is probably wrong so I shouldn’t be pushing the idea too much... Bleh.

Breaking Benjamin – Topless Lyrics 19 years ago
To be honest I’d always thought this song was about a distaste for strippers. It might be a little off the wall, but I thought I’d give it a shot.

(Fruit on the vine, you’ve got yours, I’ve got mine) Genitalia maybe? She’s equipped to bring in her male suitors, and he’s equipped to be drawn in, but for whatever reason he’s not feeling her at all.

(Meat on your bones, they won’t know) Maybe her audience is so distracted in her body that they choose not to acknowledge the dirtiness in her act, how morally wrong it seems.

(I love your face, just get away) It sounds as though he’s only willingly acknowledging her facial features rather than the features she might be baring (breasts, crotch, etc.) possibly to set her off, to say he’s not attracted to her in the least. She might be dancing for him but he’s just saying, “Yeah, you know, you’ve got a pretty FACE and everything, but seriously. Fuck off.”

(I’m on my knees, fuck you, fuck me) The sense I got from this part of the chorus was that he might actually be sort of becoming aroused despite not wanting to be, and he’s pissed because of this..

(I’m on my way to feel you dislocate) He’s saying that the only way he would ever touch her was to hurt her, not have sex with her.

(Safe in your space, I’m open, wide open) But he can’t put his hands on her. You’re not allowed to touch strippers when they’re dancing, they can only touch you, and him being part of the audience she’s free to come and go as she pleases, even though he’s making his disgust obvious.

... This was really the best I could do with a song like this. It was the first and last idea I had of what the song would be about, and combining it with a title like ‘Topless’ didn’t do any good in swaying my thoughts. All well.

Breaking Benjamin – You Lyrics 19 years ago
The lyrics are wrong. Instead of, “So I’m not hiding”, it’s “So I got high and”.

As for the meaning. This song sounds as though it could be taken from the point-of-view from someone who has a serious problem, but is too far gone to be saved, and instead he’s trying to encourage another person/other people to try and fight it before it takes over their lives too.

Let’s say, drug addiction (of course, there’s a thousand others but drugs play a large part in the music industry, so we’ll just use it for now).

(My hands are broken) The drug has ruined him to the point where he can hardly provide for himself anymore. He might be in a hospital, hooked up to machines or the like to keep him alive because his own body is too mangled to support him.

(And time is going on and on, it goes forever. How long?) Lying there he is given too much time to think about his past mistakes and mistakes that will continue on past his dying that will occur in other people. He knows that other people will probably end up in the state he’s in because of the drug, and the pattern will keep going on and on with no way to stop it because people will always be willing to use.

(So I got high and lived all that life I have taken for granted) He let himself spend more time in the ‘jacked up world’ than in the real world and facing reality for what it is: good AND bad. In the past, he’d rather have lived in a fake euphoria than in any scenario that even related to real life. But now he realizes that that was a mistake.

(Promise me you’ll try to leave it all behind) He’s asking the person/people with the same problems as him to try and get help, because they’re not to far gone to save.

(‘Cause I’ve elected hell) He was the one who gave himself these problems, no one else. It’s his fault.

(Lying to myself) In the past he’d refuse to acknowledge these problems, and never admitted that they could happen to him. Much like they might be doing.

(Why have I gone blind?) Sort of an off-hand, despaired cry, maybe something like a “Why did I do this to myself? Why couldn’t I see what was really going on before it was too late?” type of question.

(Live another life, you) This would be him saying, “You don’t want this life. I’m miserable, and I promise you’ll be miserable too.”

(The only way out is letting your guard down) This sounds like the saying, ‘The first step is admitting you have a problem’. Because admitting something like that takes having to open up, to letting people in and understanding that you’re flawed. The only way out of the drug is to acknowledge your problem and be willing to have people help you get rid of it.

(And never die forgotten, I know) Giving in to your drug problem often socially isolates you from other people. ‘Dying forgotten’ could be the metaphor for never having to give up those around you because you’re too sucked in to your drug addictions. The man himself, however, made this mistake and probably hasn’t seen much of his family or friends in a long time due to how deep he became. He probably feels alone.

(Forgive me, my love, I stand here all alone and I can see the bottom) He’s apologizing for not being able to be around longer, to not have been able to kick the habit before he was too far gone. ‘My love’ is probably a form of some kind of affection he had toward a world he used to ignore and try to escape, but now he realizes is actually very kind and loving. But it’s just too late. He knows he’s going to die, and there’s nothing else he can do but hope other people won’t make the same mistakes.

Breaking Benjamin – Dance With The Devil Lyrics 19 years ago
Why does everyone assume that almost every song ever written always has to somehow involve a girl?

As for the song itself... The first time I heard it, I envisioned a sort of suicide pact between two people who both agreed in some form or fashion that they disagreed with the rest of the world. They felt isolated, had to pretend to be people they weren’t just so everyone else wouldn’t turn on them, and one of the people (the song taking their point-of-view) has decided that they’ve had enough with lying and being fake. Only the other person hasn’t. They don’t mind being this way as much as their counterpart. So, their counterpart sort of has to convince them that this isn’t right. That they can ‘see right through’ them, that they’re the same and it doesn’t have to be this way.

Breaking Benjamin – Believe Lyrics 19 years ago
To be honest, I don't think this song has anything to do with a woman at all. ‘Bitch’ can often be applied to de-masculanize a fellow man in the right context.

In a sense, I think this song is more about a meek man, who people are used to taking advantage of, finally snapping and harshly choosing to re-take control of his life. Be aware that this might be a bit of a read.

(Don’t tread the water, just stay still) could be taken into context of him saying, “Don’t push your chances”. The reference to water could be a reference toward unpredictability, how something you could easily take for granted could just as easily pull you beneath the surface and kill you. He IS the water. Don’t tread it, don’t move, don’t look at him, don’t touch him.

(I won’t be bothered by you until I’m picking sides and pulling the strings). I’ve always thought that this meant he was going to take his time before lashing out. He’d go ahead and let these people feel as though they were in control of him, and let them live their little fantasy up into the point in which he’d re-take control and exact his revenge.

(I’m living lies and shedding the skin). He isn’t the meek little thing they think he is, and he’s about to show them that.

(I’m open wide, and letting you in). This new person isn’t someone they’re used to. This person is REAL. This is the real face of the man they’d been taking advantage of for so long.

(I’m wronging rights). The shy little man was the better side of him that was always willing to do things for people, even if they didn’t appreciate it; it was still his BETTER half, his GOOD half, but he’s had enough of that and is finally embracing the part of him that doesn’t want anything to do with anybody anymore. That just wants to hurt others they way they might have hurt him.

(Believe I don’t care what you want). He wants them to know that they can’t control him anymore. It could be taken as them struggling to adjust to this person who won’t do things for them anymore, won’t submit to them. They’re shocked. And he’s saying, “Believe it.”

(I just want mine). For once, it’s not about them. It’s about him now. It’s all about him.

(Shut up smart little bitch, I don’t need lies). It sounds like he’s saying that no matter what they say and how smart they think they are, they will never be able to re-take their control. They can’t manipulate him anymore and by the threatening sound of his voice, it sounds as though they’d better not try. Or else.

(Get up, force it to fit). A lot of people think this is a sex reference and initially I thought so too. But the more I think about it, the more it sounds like he’s just trying to say, “No, you don’t have time to process what I’m doing now. I AM in control and that’s all you need to know. Accept it. You have no choice.”

(Confined inside). They’re not getting away from his rage, it’ll smother them until they either understand or die. Possibly related to the first verse in which it references to water.

(Don’t pull me under, into the deep). Another water reference. This could be their way of trying to avoid the man’s rage, trying to negotiate their way out from his psychotic episode. He doesn’t want this power trip to end. Don’t try and stop him, don’t say anything.

(I often wonder how it should be). He might be laughing in their faces after the last line. They’re trying to get away, but it’s like a psychotic school shooter waving a gun in their teacher’s faces while they shake and tremble. A form of mental sadism. “How do you want this to end? Because, it’s probably not going to work out the way you want it too. Haha.”

(Confined inside my dead eyes). This power trip has left him feeling inhuman. He feels superior, but at the same time, nothing else.

Well... Hope I got my point across. Of course, I could be completely wrong, too.
