it seems like im the only one who thinks this...but from the first time ive heard this song until now i cant shake the idea that this song is about the development of the land that really isn't ours. destroying the land of indians/our ancestors and just how sad it is that we have no respect for the history of our land. i guess the whole song doesnt make sense with my idea, but then again none of these ideas totally fit the lyrics. for some reason tho...its the only thing that i can think of when i hear the song. "where are we? what the hell is going on?"-- the change in world "the dust has only just begun to fall" -- this is only the beginning "crop circles in the carpet sinking feeling" -- ?? "spin me 'round again and rub my eyes this can't be happening" -- confusion "when busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy" -- the shame people would feel if they would stop to think "hide and seek trains and sewing machines" -- industrial revolution "all those years they were here first"-- selfexplanatory "oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before" -- shows how quickly things change "the takeover the sweeping insensitivity of this still life" -- selfexplanatory "hide and seek trains and sewing machines" -- development "blood and tears they were here first" -- fighting to keep their history "mm what d'ya say? that you only meant well, well, of course you did this, it's all for the best, of course it is that it's just what we need, you decided this what did you say?" -- these people think they're doing something good "ransom notes keep falling out your mouth mid-sweet talk newspaper word cut outs speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you you don't care a bit" -- only care for money ...i think i might be the only person to think this. but hey, im okay with that. |
