| Tom Petty – Free Fallin' Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| How can you misinterpret the song that bad? about drugs? Listen to the song, how in the hell would a girl who loves elvis, horses her mom and america be a drug? The song is about breaking up with a girl who loves him but he doesnt love her anymore so he breaks her heart and he even though hes free hes guilt ridden. Thats why he wants to make her happy by writing her name in the sky and wants to leave everything for awhile. | |

| Its about the world and being the better man. Even though you feel like you're above someone and someone else is richer and someone else is a famous its all insignificant because we're just people being beaten down by a big hard sun. If you really want to appreciate this song do something for someone else, like Chris McCandless said, happiness is only real when shared. | |

nah its a story about a white dude in racist Mississippi, why do we give it up, (peace, why do we keep fighting) it aint hard to understand. this aint hitlers master plan. you gotta be stupid to hate a guy because his skin color is different, this ain't Hitlers master plan and if you don't know what Hitlers master plan was i guess you are stupid. hes saying fuck you guys im different, not so much as holding different views on racism but his way of life. He doesn't go to church like the rest of them he eats kfc like a black dude, he just doesn't give a shit |

You have to dig in deeper than the literal meaning of the song. Yea hes talking about drugs but its more of a struggle. In this song L.A is his mother/angel/guardian she cares for him and loves him and he loves her. Through out the song theres a struggle with his consciousness and his guilt and depression, he turns on her love and dopes up (draws blood) but in a sense he portrays himself as a parasite or a vampire which is the exact opposite of what the city is to him. The bridge is her support which guards him even when he falls into this hell, under the bridge downtown, he keeps mentioning her as if to remind himself of her love while hes trying to kill his pain, its a way to comfort himself thinking everything is ok. its his reason for loving her, no matter how much he fucks up she'll always be there for him. (back to the beginning) |

what about this, hes talking to a cop- I got the microwave, got the VCR I got the deuce-deuce in the trunk of my car, oh yeah If you only knew all the love that I found It's hard to keep my soul on the ground a deuce deuce is a gun (cmon) and he needs it cause its hard to keep his soul on the ground, he wants to live and it keeps punks away, thus allowing his soul to be free of concern. That other shit he stole. Music from Jamaica, all the love that I found Pull over there's a reason why my soul's unsound -"pull over theres a reason why my souls unsound" thats the cop talking, his soul is unsound so he wants to check these guys out. It's you It's that shit stuck under my shoe It's that smell inside the van - this is pretty cool, if you notice the tune changes to create a different scenario. Bradley is talking to the cop "its you, that shit stuck under my shoe" Getting dog shit on my hands (cop) Getting hassled by the man (cop) Waking up to an alarm (being in jail) Sticking needles in your arm Picking up trash on a freeway (community service) Feeling depressed everyday (in jail) Leaving without making a sound (being in jail) Picking my dog at the pound (a friend in jail) I thought this was worth mentioning, this was someone elses view, i just thought id share |

wow thats i didnt even catch that till now, great observation. I think both songs are tied In the here and now I wait Among the young and the old Between the moon and the ground I play With my children in my home This is for the daughters and sons Of forgotten ones Learning how to stand This is for the innocent unknowns Buried in the sand ---------- sounds like hes aloof in time, hes grown but still fighting for causes like a child growing up --------- In the crack of the blackness I wake It’s getting closer every night My city playground is a battleground Between the wrong and the right I could run free as a child I was safe and wild Naked and unarmed Now I’m grown and safe in my home But some will never stop ---------- It kindof sounds like a reference to how childrens ideas are innocent at first but then get swayed into believing what other people think and the cycle goes on and hes weary of that --------- I think the gun is a symbol of those trying to make you choose sides between the wrong and the right --------- The open mouth of the city Has swallowed up the town With that same old concrete That I still walk down And it seems they put a shine On this place when I was young But maybe I just don’t see it now -------- It sounds like the past or the innocent has been swallowed up by new ideas and changes, its similar and "better" but it doesnt seem so to him |
