Cold War Kids – Sermons vs. the Gospel Lyrics 18 years ago
I think alia might be right cause apparently god make up your mind is based on another Salinger book.

On a side note, J.D. salinger's work seems to have a large influence on art these days.

Cold War Kids – Pregnant Lyrics 18 years ago
I disagree Smurk, I see the line "mouth full of sweets Rottin your teeth" To go along with the previously expressed idea of lies. Mouth full of sweets=Sweet talk/talking soda pop/sugar coating it. All of these sayings are meant as lying to someone. and rottin your teeth is the harmful effect it has on the one who lies.

Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics 18 years ago
there's no sarcasim in this song, from what I have read in interviews some of Isaac's friends died and he got sick of being so unhappy with the world and decided he would try to be a little more positive. so he made this song.

Arcade Fire – My Body Is a Cage Lyrics 18 years ago
I get the idea the songs about a person with some sort of brain trauma. I was watching NOVA on PBS (yeah I watch PBS, so what? Want to fight about it?) and they were showing this patient in a hospital who had been in a severe Automobile accident and seemed to be a vegetable. But he wasn't.

Doctors did some tests and they would ask him try and speak and his brain wouldnt show any sign of activity but when the doctors said imagine you are speaking to me the brain would come to life. \Though my language is dead\still the shapes fill my head\
and the horrible thing is that he can not move his body hes stuck in it but he can percieve things which goes along with the song too.

and the way doctors plan to fix the problem is by rewireing the brain with electrodes and stuff.

So you got this purely scientific view of the song to go along with the spiritual ones.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Bomb.Repeat.Bomb Lyrics 18 years ago
I dont try to read to far into songs like which specific american event this song is about. I think you could get by just knowing thats its about a bomber pilot who drops bombs on innocent citizens and isnt effected by the emotional backlash of his actions because he doesnt see his victims.

Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics 19 years ago
Modest mouse has always made songs about driving places. Look no further than "This is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about," their first LP. Most of the songs have to do with driving places but nowhere in particular.

We were dead before the ship even sank has a nostalgic feel to it. Isaac Brock looks back on the Long Drive days and sings about them. How he would travel nowhere and love it.

Dashboard seems to be talking about how even though the car sucked it still got them from point a to point B.

Through out the rest of the album he keeps talking about the car. the Dashboard melted, windshield broke, a shooting star hit it, carbirator needed to be fixed, and it breaks down every hour, but looking back Isaac and MM wouldn't have had it any other way.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Better Dead Than Lead Lyrics 19 years ago
I think its about a person ideas and how there ideas and beliefs are there most prized possesions Gold=things they believe in Lead=things they dont believe in. So the Captains of Alchemy who are really good at making lead look like its gold give it to this man to believe in there cause. Someone comes up to that guys points out to him that this thing he believes in so vehemently is actually something very ugly and not what he thought at all.

So maybe its about The Iraq War.

Politicians makes us believe in it and it turns out its not what we thought it was at all.

Also as I was typing I thought this could also be about materialism, A man thinksonly about money and doesnt care about anything else. A guy gives him one piece of Gold that is so wonderful it makes him fly. and it turns out that that wasnt even gold it was lead.

SO now I just confused myself on what i think it means. I guess Ill let you decide in which one to believe
