Elliott Smith – Junk Bond Trader Lyrics 18 years ago
skealoha86, that last part of your interpretaion doesn't even make any sense.... if he's just giving up and doing what he is told be the record company, and he's going to lose his fans, then why put this song on the album... your interpretation would mean that elliott wrote all of these things and hated his creative process being destroyed, so why would he allow that to happen, or why would he expect to lose fans if he was still writing songs about how shitty the record business is... for one i don't think that elliott lost too many fans with the release of figure 8. he still kept doing his thing, the way liked to do it, and writing really great songs. and then even after that, look at xo, that is an unbelievably album and i don't see how dreamworks could have tainted that... number two, i don't think that elliott would write a song about that said that he and drugs were meant to be together; i never met the man but i can't see him actually saying that he and drugs had some devine union or anything like that... number three, don't be so fucking high and mighty and tell everyone else that they interpreted this song incorrectly and that you had to make the right interpretation yourself... i'm willing to bet you didn't know elliott smith and even if you did he probably wouldn't have given you some line by line interpretation of his song. so don't write some three page essay about it and tell everyone else they were wrong because their interpretations are as good and well informed as yours...

Jack Johnson – It's All Understood Lyrics 19 years ago
i don't think jacks claiming to be a relativist at all. i think what he is really saying is that our modern society tells us its all relative- even when we don't understand why it has to be relative. i think this song is saying that what we need is moral fiber and to not think of things as being relatively good or bad or relatively anything for that matter. he's saying to get some standards and stick with them and not let society dictate how you feel about something. so if you don't think the girls joke in a movie is funny don't laugh, or don't believe the bullshit you here from one person or another because it all about YOUR beliefs- not society's
