Bayside – If You're Bored Lyrics 16 years ago
"don't mean to scare you but i've
i've not been sleeping lately
and phone calls aren't doing much to help
so if it's all the same i'd
just ask to never have to
offer explanation or excuse again"

I think this part is about being depressed and no one understanding. usually anxiety and depression lead to sleep loss, and he's tired of having to explain what he's feeling to someone who can't comprehend what he's feeling

"we make believe every day
we make our lives seem like they're still worth living
when we find out in the end
it's only us that we've been kidding"

he's tired of hearing about how GREAT! life is at this point. he thinks it's all kind of a joke, and he can't see the point of going on. i think it's kind of an existentialist view intended here meaning the only point in living is to continue the existence of the human race and individual lives are pointless.

"so find the darkest place and
search under blankets for me
smothering myself in this darkness"

feeling depressed, IF you want to find him, he's in the darkest place imaginable.

"i am lying down tonight and
you're not lying with me
but honesty doesn't sit so well on you
some things you just can't fake"

the girl can't fake an understanding, or pretend to care about what he's going through so she's moved on.

"just another stupid drama
that no one notices but you
and you only take an interest when
there's nothing else to do"

he has no real reason to be depressed and no one really cares how he feels, except her when she's bored and has nothing else to do.

"but you won't mind
wait for all of it
i can't go wait for all of this
but you won't mind
you wait for all of it
i can't go and wait for all of this"

he can't just wait around for this bad feeling to pass.

I think the song is called "If you're bored" because the girl he's telling this shit too doesn't really care so he doesn't want to bother her with his problems unless she has nothing else to do. There's might be a little more to the song that I'm not seeing, or maybe i'm reading too much into it. whatev. amazing song.

No Use For A Name – There Will Be Revenge Lyrics 17 years ago
i love this song. i think it's about a girl who doesn't realize she's being a slut. she maybe started with one drunken one night stand or maybe she was even kind of forced or its possible she was tricked into having sex with a guy she thought loved her but didnt. obviously everyone heard about it and are talking shit like its a bigger deal than it is. the girl is obviously a better person than anyone is giving her credit for, she just doesn't know how to turn down guys. she knows people are being rude to her, but she doesn't understand why she's a joke, so she'll accept fakeness for support since its the best she can get. however all the whoring around and humiliation has worn her thin. and having sex with anyone anytime has become a new form of rejection because she now feels she has to have sex with anyone who wants it from her. all she can see is the negative reaction from others who are judging her and she begins to feel like the only way to feel better is the temporary comfort of a random hook up. but that will only make things worse and she isn't a bad person just misled and confused. the song ends with her beynod humiliated and depressed and not sure what to do. i think the singer is writing it from the perspective of a former friend who knows that the girl is a good person despite her promiscuous behavior.

No Use For A Name – Apparition Lyrics 17 years ago
I disagree with "imp" i think the protagonist is depressed and feels like he has nothing in common with anyone anymore. he's tired of feeling alone and rejected, but at the same time he doesn't think the people rejecting him are that great either. in fact theyre almost a joke, so why is he so scared of being rejected by people who are jokes?? he doesn't want his ego bruised by the rejection and feels like a ghost of who he is, and by locking himself away from society he's letting the ghost of himself win, rather than risking rejection out in the world. he's only getting worse with time locked alone in his room, depression is setting in, he can't sleep but he doesn't feel awake and the only sleep he does get is unrestful and full of nightmares. he feels as though he's drowning in his self pity and people are just laughing about the fact that he has to remove himself from society after being rejected by the crowds. the best line of the song is "I'm learning now that nothing in common is better than finding out" meaning it's better to not engage in talking to people because if he does try to socialize it usually will end in rejection and humiliation. so it's better just to assume you have nothing in common with anyone than talk to them to find out and risk rejection. even though he wants to stop caring so much about fitting in, he can't deal with the blow to his ego and the song ends with him still giving up on the world.

Bayside – A Synonym For Acquiesce Lyrics 17 years ago
"Empty fields move me so much more than rooms filled up with friends
The way the trees look dead
Reminds me that there's more to life than living
And maybe giving up's not bad, but part of letting go of you"

means that he's so distraught about this failed relationship that even though he is still physically alive, he's so emotionally drained that he might as well be dead, like decaying trees in fields. He realizes life is not worth living if you aren't alive, so maybe he should just give up on life in general without the relationship because he thinks it would be a step towards letting go of his ex

"If I surrender to this feeling maybe all the aches and pains
Will go and I can close my eyes
Never again to have them open till I bleed out all I've been
I don't want to be alone no more
No more"

"This feeling" means the desire to no longer be alive (because there is more to life than just living) so maybe if he stops trying to live so lifelessly and just dies then it will end the pain he's suffering from, he also doesn't think he will be conscious of the fact that he's alone if he's dead.

"Take this razor, sign your name across my wrists
So everyone will know who left me like this"

best line ever. he wants to die, he blames her. clearly. she might as well kill him herself and leave her name just in case people don't get it.

"Sew me up my scars run deep
A reminder not to forget the times that we've had"

..but, he's not actually going to kill himself, even though he feels like he might as well. this line is a little bit morbid and condescending i think he's referring to the pain she's caused him by "the times that we've had"

"I'll never waste another second
I have wasted so much time
And I have wasted, wasted so much time
So much time"

His lifeless existence is a waste of time, so he might as well just die, at least than he won't be wasting anymore time.

why would the girl be getting dressed up to go a motel if not to cheat??

the only other time anyone gets dressed up to go to a motel is to lose their virginity in high school..

and dont you think its a weird coincidence that the unrelated husband in this song is sleeping alone while this girl is sleeping in a motel, if the 2 have nothing to do with eachother??

and why would any song have a completely random tangent about a husband in the middle of it if it's otherwise entirely about some girl of no relation??

isn't it also a weird coincidence that the husband wants everything to be over, or in other words wants to die, and later in the song there's some unrelated male who's dead??

and lastly, since when are any of silversteins underlying messages about girls breaking the cycle with abusive men?? this isnt the red jumpsuit apparatus.. this is silverstein, whos most famous words are "maybe when you find out that im dead you'll realize what you did to me." most of their songs are about the shit girls put them through.

obviously i think your opinion is very, very wrong. in fact i even find every other comment on the page pretty accurate. i dont even kind of see where your opinion is coming from, unless you felt like telling us that it's what the song MEANS TO YOU, not what the song MEANS IN GENERAL.

If it wasn't already blatantly apparent, since i was the one who wrote this, this is just my opinion.

and "i may not always be perfect but i'll always try" is basically saying that the situation the song is about is reality, and happens.. and you should try to be better than that but if you cant be, its okay, but try.. or something of that nature.....

oh and the prayer part is just the girl aware that what she's doing is wrong, but she's praying instead of taking responsibility for her actions or changing. the part about "is this what you wanted all along" is questioning why she's praying because if she wanted to save her soul she shouldn't commit adultry.

okay, i think we can all agree the lyrics posted are insanely wrong. anyways, im pretty sure this song is about a girl cheating on her husband, her husband becomes broke, is aware his wife is cheating, and commits suicide.. (the lyrics are definitely blood on the floor.. NOT boy on the floor.. read the CD booklet.) but yeah she knows part of his downfall is her fault, however, she didn't care about him that much if she cheated on him, so she'll get over it and be fine. hence the title "true romance." and if youve ever listened to this band before it's pretty obvious silverstein considers infidelty and suicide truer than idealistic interpretations of romance.

Silverstein – Discovering The Waterfront Lyrics 19 years ago
okay well first off the song is titled discovering the waterfront, which is also the name of the album. i think by discovering the waterfront he's discovering an empty depressing place in his mind where he has to live without this girl. i think the song began AFTER he broke up with the girl, and is about his struggle to completely free her from his life and mind, which in a sense the whole album is about (like the girl and his relationship with her and getting over her)..

the beginning of the song "I will promise myself I won't care, distracting myself from your stare and I've seen this mistake once before, with your games I will never fall for" is him running into the girl somewhere after theyve broken up, where he thinks to himself how easy it would be to just take her back but he knows he cant. He also says after this "I've hung up my guns, I won't kill again" meaning he's done hurting himself and others by being with this girl.

the chorus "i wont forget you, i'm not gonna let you win, but i'm tired of lying tired of fighting you and it's not gonna change" means that although he's determined to live without this girl in his life he's not going to forget the experience, because that would be letting her get away with all the shit she did; rather he's tired of dealing with her so he's not going to, but he won't let her win and simply be forgotten.

also, the part that's like "You ask for my heart, you know that I'm down.. But not the way you lie to me, you tear it all apart and beg for me to say.. I sail off to sea, I'm not coming back" is about the girl tryign to make it seem like whatever she did doesnt matter because she "loves him" but all her actions do is depress him more and remind him of all her lies and how horrible all the shit she did made him feel, so hes sailing off in his mind to be depressed and alone, but the "im not coming back" is said with such spite it makes it sound like being depressed and alone is better than being with her

the verse of "Counting down, make that sounds, And you know it makes no sense, Counting down, 'til you mess around And I know you can't ever change" is kind of just an extra insight into what the girl did to him. this part is kind of obvious, she cheats on everyone she's with and even though she claimed she really loved him she was unable to be faithful. He also says "When I'm trembling, Thrown overboard And I'm ready to relive the past" which means he won't deal with the emotional complications of this incident until he's completely removed her from his life, or entirely submerged in the waterfront (depressing empty part of his mind) so to speak.

His rationalizations ("Pretend it's not forever, I'll pull myself together I'll say that I'll forget her, I'll breathe. And I'll say she never hurt me, And look at it as learning, And laugh about the good and the bad. Because I won't live forever We don't belong together, I know I'll feel better") for creating this place are my favorite part of the song because its sort of the things you tell yourself in order to cope with a relationship ending that don't really help because they're so much easier said then done.

and the end note of "its not gonna change" i think is him saying that nothing will make him forgive and/or forget her.

SORRY THIS IS SUCH A LONG POST!!
