or maybe "pretend" reflects how we all play a part in existence. that we all end up denying our authentic identities, we simply succumb to blending into what society, commercialism, etc expects of us. it has real existential undertones and plays up the aburdity of existence. which ties in very well with your idea of "time to pretend" embracing hedonism. |

this song reflects an existential understanding of existence. that is life is meaningless. yet through ones acceptance of the nothingness one can be liberated by the freedom of choice in life. if there is no point to anything why not do as we please. "This is our decision to live fast and die young We've got the vision, now let's have some fun! Yeah it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?" it points out how, most of us do not live "authentically" or true to existence, we end up playing a part (ie) we become mothers, docters, students, waitress's, and that consumes our identity, we merely play a part in existence, without taking control over who we are for in the end "We were fated to pretend" these ideas on existence just leap out and inspire me through these lyrics |
