A. This album is so very much worth buying it's ridiculous. B. And I'm just being picky here, but I'm 100% gay, and the he/she stuff could just as easily be he/he. I know the Walkmen are straight, etc, but just wanted to highlight how universal the song is, it can hit any type of relationship. She/she, for that matter. I think I'm the world's only gay -Walkmen- fan (fill in that blank with any number of bands) but it's something to think about, innit? |

I think she's saying "I'm an independent motherfucker; and I'm here to change your mind" the first time, and then "take your money" I think it's about phony politicians trying to get the youth vote, getting people to vote for the first time, begging for support, affirmation, acceptance, etc. |

| Love this one too. I didn't take the medicine them as literally, I actually take it to be some comment on the music industry, how bands get cleaned up or neutered, etc, by labels/the music biz. Maybe how bands/artists lose sight of what they're trying to do when they're more focused on putting out "popular music" as opposed to good music? "Record for the master," "Forty billion served," "is this thing even on" - that's how I read all this. New Porns lyrics are always so textured and compelling, there are probably a billion interpretations. | |
