The Velvet Underground – Heroin Lyrics 19 years ago
could the progression and tempo changes of the song perhaps reflect the life of a heroin addict? begining with a the slow apathetic dreaminess of a nice big hit of the shit, which speeds up as the drug starts to wear off, and instead of apathy the user begins to think about his problems(such as with women and friends in the begining) and starts really bugging out. but then another hit and things get mellow again and the protagonists thoughts wander to subjects such as being a sailor, but once again as he starts to come down he thinks about the faults that exist in a world..Where a man can not be free
Of all of the evils of this town
And of himself, and those around
his dismisses these thoughts with another hit. next perhaps he tries to come off the shit, and that causes the big freak out, in which all the issues rush back to him and overwhelm him, then a fitting climax of another hit, a hit that ends the song, and maybe the protagonist as well
