| I always thought this was a positive song. Basically, he wants to be in a relationship, and he feels "like a throw-away" because everyone else is pairing off..except him. But now it's his turn to get in on it. He doesn't really know how to get someone to be his, but he's willing to learn (hence the title) and try new things. He gets a date and waits by the phone after for her to call him. Things continue to go well between them (the "midnight kiss") and in the end, it seems like he's happy. He's no longer "falling down", and he's "no longer one", in other words, he's finally with somebody. It does sound kind of dreary in the end music-wise, but I always thought this song had a happy ending. That's my spin on it, anyways. | |
