| System of a Down – She's Like Heroin Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I'm with Cobainkicksass and heroinflame in that I don't believe this song is directly about a transsexual or drugs - rather that those are very strong metaphors used for a relationship between him and a girl. I used to be in a relationship like that, and I find a few of the lines outstanding. "She's like heroin, sipping through a little glass." - Pretty obvious that he likes her a lot, she's "addictive" but also the other side of heroin - painful, damaging to his life, which he KNOWS, but cannot help because he believes he loves her. "She wants nothing more, but to be a little whore" - As Hookergirlydude said, she wants to have sex a lot. It feels as though he is nothing but her sex toy, like she could be with anyone and it really wouldn't matter but he's the one she's chosen right now. The chorus, "Selling ass for heroin" seems to be a metaphor that he debases himself, disregarding all his personal morals and ideologies for this girl. He does things he would never normally considering doing; he changes religion, forms new political opinions, eats different foods, anything she wants. When he talks about "saving her ass," that's possibly how they started going together. He originally saw the way she was a little whore, and wanted to help her change her life. She also said she wanted to change her life, but when they became a 'couple,' things started going downhill for him. He still really wants to save her though, now he just needs help. Throughout the song he says the things he's doing for her (selling ass for heroin) in a very negative way, meaning he does understand that what he's doing is against what he believes, but the fact is he CANNOT help it, he cares for her too much. Yet she still treats him like shit. At the end of the song, he knows he needs help, and that he can't escape her alone. The relationship is not over and he cries for help. "I need someone to save my ass..." |
