UPDATE! I went to the trio's show on 4/22 in milwaukee and man oh man I'm speechless. If I remember correctly, amidst all of the elbows to the face, slams in the side, and cups of beer being spilled down my back, the boys only played 2 songs off of Agony and Irony. Maaaybe 3. They tore it up with some actual badass old songs. Fuckin' hell um, san francisco, cooking wine, 100 stories, my friend peter, queen of pain, continental, if we never go inside, fatally yours... AND they busted out a ramones sing-a-long right in the middle of one of the songs, I can't remember which now. But who isn't going to have a blast singing along "the KKK took my baby away" with matt skiba. haha. Oh man it was so much fun. And that's all not even the best part...they actually were going to end the show with love love, kiss kiss but this ridiculously rabid wisconsin crowd kept chanting louder and louder so they came back out and played THREE more songs the last of which was Radio which even at this point I'm still thinking must have been a dream for me. I mean holy shit. I have been wanting them to play Radio at every concert I've been to and they never do. But this time, oh they played it, oh yes, they played it hard, they played it long, they played it good. SO! Anyway, long story short, to follow up on my previous comment, who gives a fuck if people think Alkaline Trio have sold out to make some money and get more people to buy their albums. They're still a really good band with a really good discography and actual talent and as long as they still know how to put on a real show like they did last night, they can put out as many more less-than-par albums as they want to get some dough. It's just part of the music business. And I think for any real fan who's been to their shows, it's 100% apparent that they still know how to play good music and really are there to have a good time and please their die-hard fans. Long live the trio. |

hahah dstav. forget the 'sold out' mentality, but honestly i'm also pretty disappointed with where they've taken their sound. i don't think the boys are specifically trying to write lyrics and songs that cater to the mainstream ear canals but instead are just realizing how much more their capable of studio-wise and convincing themselves that their sound is maturing and therefore becoming more clean cut and approachable on its own, while they just do their thing and get better and better. but yeah, that's the point- to us long time fans, alkaline trio never was and is not meant to be some sophisticated sound mastered band with 5 songs on the radio that all sound the same with a chorus everyone's happily singing along to. i mean, christ, go on youtube and look up mr. chainsaw live years ago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvCCSYhhDio&feature=related) and they're in tshirts and jeans just rocking out to gritty good songs that they actually felt something about. now it all seems pretty contrived with far too much focus on performance (suits and eye make-up?) and studio enhancement instead of just writing good songs and getting on a stage and performing them because they love it. maybe it's just because they're all getting older and this dark act was a way to slow down the pace. all that being said though, i've been to a couple of their shows over the years and regardless of the album out at the time or what they're wearing, they always deliver live and somehow show that they are sticking to their roots. i just hope they play older songs this time too at the eagles club and don't focus too much on agony and irony or crimson, because these newer albums really aren't classic trio that i've loved since goddamnit. |

| The Stone Roses – I Wanna Be Adored Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Hahah vernatica53, you kook. I first heard this song as a cover performed by Matt Skiba sometime last year and had to download the original version right when I got home- I've been in love with it ever since. As for the meaning, "I don't have to sell my soul, he's already in me" -- I've never thought of that part to mean that he sold his soul to the devil already, instead I think he's just stating that the devil is and always has been inside of all of us (tempting us, etc) without anyone ever having to sell their souls. It's like an acceptance of sin, if you will. And as far as the I wanna be adored repetition, I find it funny that some people on here are like, "Awee it's about this overwhelming beautiful human emotion of just wanting to feel loved" -- I don't see how you could find that the case given the soul-sale reference. I think it's more talking about a rather nasty desire to be praised/idolized and doing whatever it takes to attain that kind of fame/worship. Oh and to the poster who said something about the "You adore me" part meaning his desire is satisfied--I've always thought of it more as a pleading thing, like (will) you adore me, hence the later "I gotta, I gotta, I wanna be adored" |

Yeah this song could basically be about anything. "We gave up fighting a good fight" "Forever forsaken" "Forever forgotten" "Hopelessly dreadful" |

Haha oh man, this song. Yeah. This song is awesome. When Matt sang this, at the G.O.D. part he pointed to people in the audience. He was like, "It's up to you and me, G[point] O[point[ DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD[point]" Wo0. Oh yeah and the lyrics- right on mark. Also, it's: Demagnetize [this opposite, bi-polar frequency] Holy crap Heavens is great. |

Alright, I changed my mind about Watching You being my favorite song on Patent Pending. This definitely tops it. I love Matt Skiba. A lot. Yeah yeah, I know that isn't an interpretation, but it's going to take me awhile to get over the awe of how great all these songs sound before I attempt to analyze what is really meant by them. Besides, plenty of it doesn't even need explaining. The night is falling, thank God. The day is dying, big smile. Don't leave just yet. So bangin'. If you're reading this comment and you don't own the CD, get up off of your ass and get that disc immediately. I don't see how you could be sorry. |

Doods. This is probably my favorite song off the album;; especially after hearing it live. It was cool- Matt was thanking the people from the venue for taking care of the band so well and Epitaph and what not, and so to introduce this song he goes: "This song's for them, because they're always watching us." And then he sang it and it was fucking great. True story. xD |

| Heavens – Patent Pending Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Few corrections on the lyrics- [From the sleeve] Bring your bored, bring your broken hearted. We've got a vessel that we've charted. Into the wide open sea, the two of us dearly departed. Bring a book with a happy ending, A remix of the message sending, Shiny, clean, this guillotine New and improved, patent pending. Place a curse on the hearse we're driving. Cut the brake lines, end up dying. Glad to be traumatically against the ropes lost all hope trying. Finding ways to break the silence And to quench our taste for violence, Shadow free monstrosities crafting the fine art of patience. High time we swore off everything we know. Sit tight - we'll be back in six minutes or so. [Third time] High time we swore off everything we know. Sit tight - we'll be back with six six six in tow These guys are so great live. I mean, absolutely wicked. Matt totally owns the stage, but they've got a killer drummer and bassist, and then Josiah is pretty amazing. If you're anywhere near where they're gonna be having a show, be sure to catch it. |

trio rules: yeah, something more like that. he's got the keys to heaven but he's heading south that'd be the down arrow on the compass thing, for all you kids who failed geography. [me] but on the other hand- skiba has always openly said he doesn't believe in heaven or hell, so im not so sure its about being judged or what not and as far as the overdose theory- you can come close to dying from lots of things- not just drugs |

| Alkaline Trio – Private Eye Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
well, this song pretty much kicks;; in fact, so does the album. and, even more to the point, the alkaline trio is badass. [at least in my arrogant opinion] that means you matt, dan and derek- although i especially like the glenn porter and mike felumlee days as well. oh, and sundials, thats a good one. who was that one guy? but yeah how the hell does one go about dragging a lake. do i need a rope. or a tow truck. not to mention dragging a lake while simultaneously looking for corpses, dusting for prints, and prying up floor boards. that is some major multi-tasking-ness. also, my favorite comment out of the entire 9 pages[yes, i read them all; sort of] was the person who said flies fucking was the black and white static on the to0b-that is cool. i had always gotten the idea of animal planet or something like that having a show about flies mating. and finally, when is it ever the right place and the right time? to my utter annoyance, 9 out of 10, i find it's one or the other. i.e well here i am at the alkaline trio show [right place] but it kind of just ended [wrong time] or: well here i am at 7:00pm just like the ticket says [right time] but...wtf- the AVALON? i'm supposed to be at the tROUB! [wrong place] p.s. aside from that one comment- i especially love the various comments flooding this site essentially saying "i don't know the meaning, but id rather just forget about trying to figure it out so i can enjoy the song more without having to...you know, [think] about it." those are great. now, if you'll excuse me- i've got an appointment with my pillow but oh p.p.s rotten milk isn't exactly something you'd want to put down your throat. it's all lumpy and smells pretty bad. then again, i should probably put down this vodka. do the dew. |

| Heavens – Dead End Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ooo Heavens. I love this song Suicide, eh? Hm- I think this girl is defintely down and out- she's sick of living, especially in this dead end world where she has nowhere to go and theres no progress to be made. She may or may not be contemplating suicide, but she's searching for something and keeps coming up empty. He doesn't blame her for wanting to get away from it all and give up[not necesarrily by dying...]- since she's always on the outside looking in;How can you blame her? But, I think more than trying to convince himself not to blame her for killing herself or whatever, he's simply relating to and sympathizing with her and the situation[s] she's in. And then, at the end- the first impression I got when reading [this] But then I stopped and took a picture I found myself looking in it Found myself drowning in it Lost myself for a minute The same face in the same mirror With his eyes a little clearer We watched the reflection standing This is only the beginning was that he puts himself in her shoes, and see's how hard it is and finds himself drowning in it. His eyes become a little clearer, and he realizes how far gone she is- this dead end girl with zero oppurtunity in her dead end world, and on top of that "Lost myself for a minute The same face in the same mirror" he see's some of her in himself. But yeah;; great band, great song. ---> Get the cd =] |

Then again, how could anyone NOT love this song. Modest Mouse kicks. Gonna hit you on the face I'm gonna punch you in your glasses! And hits, apparently. I love singing that part. lol this song is so fucking ridiculously great live like, fuck. I don't give a dick WHO or WHAT it is directed at but screaming along FUCK YOU AURORAA!11 with matt, danny and derek is a fucking wonderful experience. true stroy seriously that even beats hearing a jerkwad of people yell "I shat the bed and laid there in it" which is pretty damn swell |

| Alkaline Trio – Jaked On Green Beers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
THat's pretty fucked up, megwan. This song makes me laugh, too. Hard. Its fucking ridiculously great. Oh my gosh I love this song. I gotta go listen to it. I can't help but scream along "I HOPE THIS IS GOODBYE!1" every goddamn time I listen to it. Oh, about evilmonkeys comment- I haven't read the rest of the pages on here, but yeah- for people who are saying it's a break up song, or about a girl...I'd guess not. I was reading an interview with Matt the other day and this is pretty cool what he said: “I would say the lyrics came from personal experience but to just spell something out to somebody isn’t very interesting. The songs are very personal, but they’re also not very literal. People assume they’re about girls because they involve leaving and loneliness, but that happens when a friend passes away or when one of your best friends isn’t one of your best friends any more - even if they’re still walking the earth. People tend to assume they are about girls because everybody else that writes pop structured punk music sing about girls a lot of the time.” Pax- |

| Alkaline Trio – As You Were Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Put down like a prostitute in court All liberty soon to abort like my sanity, like thoughts of you How f'in great is that! I love these guys; this song is brilliant. Basically, this song is about this guy- who's pretty down about something (put down like a teenagers first drink) but he meets this girl. (I always get the visual of him meeting her in a bar) But anyway, so he's feeling down and out, thinking he's no good- so even though he's talking to her like he likes her, and giving her compliments, he feels he's so fuckin pitiful and thinks she should just leave before things get too serious between them. Afterall, she was just passing through- so nothing should have ever happened between them, but he was drunk and spilled his guts- and she slipped on his gut spill (at the bar, and hit her head on the corner of the barstool) and so he's like how fucking pitiful of me to actually hope she would fall for me - but that was even the better half of him- which is ironic cause he's obviously saying his other half was hoping something even worse. Wait. Scratch all that. It makes no sense. What's with the switch of pronouns! She was passing through to climb a hill As you slipped and slid on my gut spill SHE was passing through as WHO? slipped and slid on his gut spill! Can't be the "she," can it? Screw this, I don't know. I mean, all on black's interpretation would seem to make sense at first- like "put down" was the girl rejecting him but I don't think so. Unless maybe he's talking about himself when he says "she was blah blah when you slipped and spilled on my gut spill" maybe "you" is himself...and he was praying for himself to fall. That would be pretty fucking pitiful. |

YEah! Every trio song kicks. Shut your suck. And "saddestgirl is the suckiest name-thing I've ever seen on this site. Or any other site with sns for that matter. I don't care if you are the saddest girl- it's the only sn I really don't like! What a waste of letters on sucky words and a crappy name in general. |

Lol at the above comment- [Limewire is stealing! =X] That's what happened with me, too though I didn't know about this song until I saw it listed on Limewire, so I figured what the hey. I love it. Matt's voice is perfectly eerie yet soft and smooth at the same time. Only thing I don't like about it is how short it is...I'm always disappointed that it's over so I listen to it a few more times. wo0t |

| Alkaline Trio – You're Dead Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Unbelievable song. Matt sings this so well. I think everyone has been pretty spot on with the meaning. I can't figure out why From Here to Infirmary is so underrated. Every song on there [this being one of them] kicks ass(imho) And all the time they took talking in circles To get them off the hook would take miracle workers We're nowhere near prepared there's no way of knowing Why don't they just admit they're scared Cause its already showing I love that. The emotion put into Alkaline Trio songs really is undescribable, as is the emotion that immediately hits the listener. Simply ace musicianship every time from this band. Pax- |

| Alkaline Trio – Another Innocent Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Holy crap I love this song. A lot. I definitely find the lyrics rather straight forward too, as pitstry said. The pedophile theory doesn't seem accurate. Self pity shit and coming up with excuses for behavior doesn't entail pedophile. So many guys these days (like the one in this song) pull the "make the girl feel sorry for me so she'll have no choice but to like me" card and justify it (make excuses) because of bad happenings in their past. As far as "another innocent girl" making the list- that just has to do with women sometimes thinking we can change guys and make them all better after hearing them spill their guts (because sometimes, it's just too hard to resist) That switch up in pronouns at the end is kind of sketchy, but I always took the part "And when we get home you'll see that this part of him is now part of me" to mean that the guys problems became the girls once she slipped on his gut spill and fell for his self pity shit and then the next two lines "And its way too easy to fake this smile lead you on Maybe I'm wrong but everyone gets bored once in awhile" are still from the girls perspective, when she says it's easy to fake a smile (especially after he's acted like he's all sewn up) and lead this guy on by trying to make him feel better about himself and get over his self pity (while he's leading her on at the same time, spilling his guts and then acting sewn up and repeating the cycle)- maybe she's wrong for ever thinking she could help him and getting into the situation from the beginning (and maybe he's wrong for pitying himself with the intention of getting a girl to feel sorry for him) but hey, everyone gets bored once in awhile. |

| Heavens – Another Night Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Killer tune. I can't decide which one I like more; this or Patent Pending. Both of them flow so goddamn well it's brilliant. As far as the lyrics, they definitely remind me a lot of trio, as some of you have said. I'm sure you'll have people saying that Matt's ran out of things to write about, but regardless of the similarity, each of his songs are so unique and rad in their own way. Still, I think Steinbrick really deserves most of the credit for making Heavens what it is and setting it apart from Alkaline Trio, even though Matt's the main man. | |
| Heavens – Patent Pending Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is ridiculously good. I love the beat and holy cow, Matt's voice is superb accompanying it. Then again, Matt's voice is just superb period. This song along with "Another Night" are the only ones I've heard, but I love the change of a seemingly overall softer tone for Heavens over the more raw Alkaline Trio style. Ace stuff. I can't wait for the release so I can hear the rest of it. | |
