Brand New – Play Crack the Sky Lyrics 19 years ago
Oh yeah, and I always thought the line that people keep saying is "we are the resin" was "WE ARE THE WRECKAGE"... It makes sense with the next line "after the storm" and later it sounds like "washed up on the beach." Sound good?

I am shocked to see that only one other person here has mentioned the Bible... Don't freak out or anything, it's a good passage. One I think Jesse drew inspiration from (and other songs suggest he has an interest in the Bible).

From James Chapter 3 verse 4 and 5, "Take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts."

In my British Literature class I wrote a paper comparing and contrasting this song to "My Galley" by Sir Thomas Wyatt the Elder. Look it up if you like this song.... Other than that, I think everything about this song has been covered.

Pistolita – Age Lyrics 19 years ago
After hearing their whole album, I don't think they write songs for a specific meaning and rather write interesting imagery to be interpreted by listeners.

With that said, to me this song is about growing up and realizing you still don't have the answers. Also it shows a want to return to younger days, but the road has been chosen and this fate must be lived out. I like how they leave things open to interpretation. Really good band

John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow, I thought this site was "song meanings" not "bash other people because they got something different out of a song". Geeze.

Yes, the song is overly idealistic, but isn't that what one does when he or she "Imagines"? He is simply putting out some of the major reasons that people start wars (religion, territory, greed) and saying, "Hmm, what would it be like if we didn't have those?" In my own interpretation that doesn't make him communist or anti-religion (no, I did not go to an encyclopedia to try to find out his personal beliefs; I'm just going based on the context of the song). His conclusions are that we'd live in a more peaceful world.

I also fail to see a call for us all to be the same. You don't have to follow all of the same ideologies as somone else to get along amicably with him or her. He just doesn't want us to kill each other over ideas, or things, or little lines we've drawn in the sand. He's not saying we need to do this, or that he has a great plan on how to attain world peace, he's just asking listeners to visualize what it would be like.

Another interesting note: A friend of mine is the biggest Beatles' fan I know (yes, he hates Yoko too), but he was telling me that the chorus to Imagine was actually written by Yoko Ono, and that it could be found in her books of poetry published as early as the early 60's. Now, I haven't actually looked for those books, and my friend is usually pretty accurate about things, but I do want to look it up. Just thought it would be interesting if it were co-written by her. Now if you must disagree with me on any of this, please do so in a courteous manner and use verifiable facts for your claims. "You're a poo-poo head" hasn't hurt anyone since grade school.
As far as the people who have interpreted this so far, good jobs. I love hearing others viewpoints on my favorite songs.

Fergie – London Bridge Lyrics 19 years ago
The first verse is obviously about using her fame to get benefits those who are not as well-off or good-looking can have, and exploiting it to teenage girls to make records. Then of course the "me love you long time" is a beautiful reference to the vietnam war in which we blew up the villages of many innocent families, and many of the girls were left to whore themselves out for money, and since their english was so bad, they said it like that.

Second verse is about dancing around and acting like a whore, but not admitting to it. However, she uses the shorter term "ho" for whore. This is incorrect. Hos get paid, she means sluts. They give it up for free.

The third verse is about getting really drunk and feeling kinda slutty, then wandering about without her shoes on.
Fourth, she gets upset because the papparazzi is trying to take a picture of her while she's puking her brains out. I'm assuming this is the source of "the bass" which she claims to have.

Well, since at no time was London Bridge a drawbridge, I grew confused at first. Then I realized that somewhere in the meth-bender Fergie had in the late 90's she studied the history of London quite feverishly, being that she couldn't sleep. She knew that it was the only bridge across the River Thames, and as such, the only way into London. On occasion, the bridge was destroyed to prevent enemy troops from crossing into their city. In a brilliant metaphor, she is likening this to her situation with the paparazzi, with whom she wishes to "burn her bridges". However, I'm still not clear on if she meant from the the Normans or the Danes. Clearly she includes her dancing friends to protect them from the paparazzi/ danish/ gaul invasion. What an amazing songwriter!!!
