| Neil Young – Old Man Lyrics
|
|
I always pictured a young man walking into a bar, perhaps after a break up, bad day or after coming to some realization. He sits next to an older man who's been at the bar for a little while. The old man starts talking to the young man and soon the young man is pulled out of his revelry and starts to pour out his thoughts to the old man. The old man listens intently and both ponder the thoughts they share between them. I think the song ends before they stop drinking and part ways, I think the point is to simply ponder the thoughts the young man has put on the table. |

are you kidding me? no comments?
this is one of my favorite Phish tunes :D
it's a self reference about the band:
Fish is like a little kid, likes the aspect of the concerts that let him feel like a kid.
Trey's all about the music
Mike had a big epiphany at a gig back at Goddard that made him want to make music his life.
and the whole band is aware of how much they mean to all the fans, hence the reference to turning the earth.
the rest is about the whole amazing Phish concert experience :D |

the lyrics in question appear in the liner of the original LP, they do not appear in the liner of the CD Remaster. The lyrics are do not appear in the actual recording used on the CD or the LP, there is no explanation as to why this is. So there is only 1 version of this song.

i think led zep were more open to other types of music than just about any other band out there. i mean sure the beatles and the stones were interested in indian music, but as far as i can tell it just resulted in a few riffs and some drum sounds. look at all the amazing instruments and sounds the boys from Zep have fooled around with over the years! it's too bad america's too damn obsessed with pop and rap, sure it's music, but it's so damn diluted and thin, listen to some substance and see what real music is. |

Jonsey began writing it shortly after his father died, giving it the "dark" quality. The band began working on it as a whole during the III sessions, so the norse stuff checks out, it is highly improbable that it's about LOTR, as nothing else on III is. A VAST majority of Zep's songs are NOT about LOTR, whether you like it or not. |

Noel Redding was always a bit underrated. He much rather preferred the guitar to the bass, and kind of got shoved into the Experience, he thought he was trying out for The Animals, then ended up getting put in the Experience cause of his unique looks more than anything. |

| Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1 Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|

As stated on the Official The Wall DVD: The Wall is a semi-autobiographical depiction of Roger Water's life. It has absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH SYD! (and yes that's how you spell Syd, all you "fans" out there sure can't like the band that much if you can't even get than right) The band was not that obsessed with Syd as everyone thinks. Anyway, the reason why some people aren't quite sure what most of these songs mean is because they don't understand what a concept album is. A concept album is what many bands made before selling a single was the way to make money, when vinyl and 8 tracks required that you listened to more than one song, so bands strived to make the WHOLE album good, not just the hit that record companies wanted. The Wall is like a concept on steroids though, it is more like a play or movie, and it is virtually impossible to understand if you insist on treating each song as a separate entity. You MUST listen to the whole album from front to back all the way through to get a good sense of what it's about, and you should watch the movie too, then maybe there won't be so many dumb posts here. And no it's not about sex and drugs, in case you wondered, 9 times out of 10 a song IS NOT about sex and drugs... just because that's all YOU think about. |

| Yes – Owner Of A Lonely Heart Lyrics

This is a great song, very thought out and with several layers of meaning. Certainly something to behold given it was made in the 80's, when songs tended to have mostly the same theme, same music and were generally quite uninspired and corny to speak the truth. It is also one of those rare gems where the video actually adds to the song and doesn't just create a method of playing the song on tv (and thus generating more money) the video is very well put together and actually holds one's attention with a storyline, as opposed to just watching the band play or watching the rapper with his bling strut in front of half naked women crooning about how he fucked this one and is going to fuck that one. Great song. |

| Page and Plant – The Battle of Evermore (Led Zeppelin cover) Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Just to point out, this version is by Page & Plant, one can tell by the attention to detail with the inclusion of every moan and shriek in this song (which was recorded live, with an Egyptian (?) woman doing Denny's part) the music is actually pretty different, giving an Eastern flair instead of the usual English folk flair.
personally, i think that this really has nothing to do with "LOTR" there is not a single song by Zeppelin that has to do with LOTR. there are 2 or 3 that have some reference to LOTR but none are about the books. Musicians do reference on occasion, but that doesn't mean that's what the song is about. |

I like the first interpretation. I myself have always seen it as a sort of ode to a loner, whether on his own by choice or by force, struggling against society's stigmas and corruptions... but I guess one would always hold tight to a song's first impression... whatever it means it's a damn fine song. |

| Led Zeppelin – Travelling Riverside Blues Lyrics

|
"The squeeze my lemon bit was (as was all the lyrics) ripped off from Robert Johnson."
I hate it when people blindly assume that all Zeppelin "cover" songs are simply lifted lyrics, anyone with ears can tell that Johnson's and Zeppelin's versions bear very very little in common other than the lemon bit and the take my rider to rosedale stuff. even the names are different. Zeppelin NEVER lifted entire lyrics or the entire music from ANY song and called it their own, quit calling them thieves, if what Zeppelin did was stealing, then all blues musicians are thieves! |

why does everyone say they stole whole songs from people? sure they stole song NAMES and a few RIFFS and LINES, but not a single song was completely stolen. you even contridict yourself by showing that blind willie's lyrics are COMPLETELY different from plant's. retards. if you actually listened to the original versions of these songs, you'd find they sound nothing at all like zeppelin's versions, that right there constitutes a right to put your name on the song writing credits, so what if you stole a small line or song name or bit of a riff, ALL BANDS HAVE DONE THAT! |

this song sucks, i mean really, it's on classic rock stations ALL the time, this IS NOT classic rock. that's about it, nobody ever said: "Hot damn! I wanna learn to play guitar just like in Low Rider!" is there even a guitar in this song? |

| C.W. McCall – Convoy Lyrics
|
This might be McCall's most popular song, but it is by no means a "one-hit wonder."
Yes, it is... a one-hit wonder is an artist who releases only one song that is a "hit" a "hit" being a song that was 1) released as a single 2) made the charts (it doesn't hit the charts if it's not a single) and 3) went pretty damn high on the charts, almost always to #1. That artist will have never released a "hit" before or after their one-hit, therefore, they are one-hit wonders. just because people liked other songs by that artist doesn't mean they're not one-hit wonders. Think about it: both Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead are one-hit wonders... |

THERE ISN'T A TOWN CALLED ONTARIO!!!!
Increase your knowledge learn about other countries just a bit.
I hate it when people have to be smart asses and try to show off and then fail... if YOU bothered to read the comment and the lyrics, you'd see that the town referred to in the song is in Ontario and is not named, so when the guy who posted that comment said he thought it was about neil's hometown and that he thought neil was from ontario (which would make his hometown fit the song) he wasn't calling ontario a town... |

technically, a one hit wonder is a band that released only one NUMBER 1 hit, so, technically, Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead are one hit wonders... (and it has to be a single to make it on the charts... just because you hear it on the radio, does't mean it's a "hit") |
