I am almost sure that the Joseph Paul Simon is referring to is the late Joseph Shabalala, of Lady Smith Black Mambazo, whom Paul Simon helped bring to America. I think he was touched by Joseph's soulful music. I think this song may refer to Joseph's idea of gifts that we choose when we are still in the womb and God breathes into us, but that's my own interpretation. I may be wrong. |

| Paul Simon – Hearts And Bones Lyrics

My favorite Simon song. I love the line "you take two bodies and twirl them into one, their hearts and their bones, and they won't come undone". Clearly about the impossible to ignore love for a child. This song is filled with acceptance and regret for the lost relationship, while joyful and grateful for the child. I've always thought the one and one half wandering Jews were Paul and the child. |

| Paul Simon – 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover Lyrics

I think the song is talking to us the listeners. Look at all the differant names in the chorus. The woman is more of a fantasy too. At least for me, I don't think there are women lined up to show me how I can slip away for the night ;) |

| Paul Simon – The Boxer Lyrics

I think the meaning of this song is described so well by the exerpt of "fanfare for the common man" that is in the song. Aren't we all fighting for life and love. The boxer is the everyman. The last line gets me teared up for the futility of the boxers (and my own) cry. Someday both the me and the boxer will find our home. P.S. I always thought it was "a come on from the warzone (as in army recruiters) 7th avenue. The next line makes more sense now. |

Paul Simon said that this was one of his least favorite songs, because it is so contrite and devoid of deep meaning, but that it was a favorite of fans. Personally, I love it and the bright airiness makes me feel that carefree youthful feeling from when I was 10. I think of this song when I see my children playing or am laying in the grass looking at the clouds. |

| Paul Simon – All Around the World or the Myth of Fingerprints Lyrics

It seems readily evident that fingerprints are all different. That's what we're told at a very young age anyway. The thing is, what if we were to look and find out that they all are the same. In a sense the human hand is very recognizable and therefore the "same" from person to person. Differance from person to person is often contrived. I like the way Paul Simon used fingerprints in particular. Of all the things that can be differant about a person this is one of the most individual and also perhaps the least stigmatizing. I think Jaws and Brad nailed this one. |
