Hey dude, the lyrics are like totally missing...
This song is like so uplifting, it's got like this feel to it that makes you have an out of body experience.
And this is a discussion about this SONG. Whoever started babbling about emo bullshit needs to get out of this post. Start a post somewhere else if you want to debate, this is about Sonic Youth's masterpiece, not about the true meaning of Emo.
To clear things up on that, and to settle the argument, Emo is a stereotype. Are we going to start stereotyping music the way we do people? No. I think it's all stupid. Music sounds the way we want it to. If you choose to take it and let it burn your ears, that is your own personal choice. But to take it and label it is almost as disrespectful as labeling someone else a "retard" or a "nerd".
I'm not saying that genre's don't exist. I'm just saying you guys are taking words that are supposed to define the music, and using it to insult. Not to mention there IS no emo genre, it's a punk style that is mimicked by multiple artists over and over. So please can we stop the whole Emo debate, and for once enjoy the music? |

I think the meaning is quite simple. The man was just trying to flag a ride, and he feels alone and misunderstood. The entire song expresses a meaning of racism for me and it creates a great theme for his time. Just trying to drag your way along and make a living, but you're stuck at a crossroad begging for God to help you. |

This may be off in a bit of a tangent, maybe its about a girl who's been falling in love with a man who's a fake. He fits the role she desires but its not true to himself and she knows it. The love is meaningless, but they carry on with it like it was nothing. The final part is like being sung from a third person perspective where the narrator feels love for this girl but she doesn't see it because she is too busy being preoccupied by the "cracke polysterine man"

this song seems to be about a man who has an alchohol addiction and is trying to get over it as it slowly starts taking his life... the first verse is all about death trying to find him and the chorus describes when his drunkness starts wearing off how you suddenly find that youre in a strange place or doing something strange and you have no idea whats going on... i mean come on here the evidence comes in the line:
"Fate is gunna find your love in a glass of champagne"
Thats what gives the entire meaning of the song away |

This song is about a girl keith dated as a teenager and into his adulthood... the girl left him for another man who was rich *obviously stated in the lyrics* this song is his goodbye to desiree

This song is clearly about him telling his friend not to abandon his pregnent gf!! take the lyrics for example
the line "dont be like the one who made me so old, dont be like the one who left behind his name"- hes telling his friend to not be like his father who left him completely.
In the third voice hes saying he feels pain for the unborn child saying "i know how you feel ive been there"
