Taking Back Sunday – Blue Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
THIS SONG IS MY NEW FAV! It is so lush and woderful! I especially love the lines....
"And it's all too familiar
And it happens all the time.
All the cards begin to stack up twisting heartache into fine little pieces that avoid an awful crime
But it's you I can't deny"

Wow, so beautifully wirtten...
I think that this particular song is one that has many meanings, this is one of those rare songs that can take on different meanings at the samt time. THough the lines I said above, I think this is what they mean....

I think they are getting back together, making mistakes and not fixing them, but just keep moving on, having sex etc...they know they can't be together, that it's just not supposed to happen, but they keep falling in love with one another and giving into their feelings instead of parting ways like they think they should--"Sometimes it jsut feels better to give in, and it's all too familiar and it happens all the time" -------"All the cards begin to stack up twisting heartache into fine little pieces that avoid an awful crime, but it's you I can't deny" meaning that it's easier to give in again and be with one another then do what's best and break up, even though that is the hardest thing to do, so they avoid all of that pain and stick togehter as shown here"Little pieces that avoid an awful crime"....it's really a sad song, but beautifully written, one of TBS's best

Taking Back Sunday – Little Devotional Lyrics 19 years ago
THIS IS WHAT THIS SONG MEANS.....

I think the general idea of this song is pretty clear---a boy and a girl are having an affair and yet the girl already has a boyfriend. The boy (Adam, I guess) loves her but still goes on with their affair. He knows that she is deceiving and that knowledge is highlighted here “Well I picture you in blue, but I have to say I'm more partial to the red deep, dark, and devastating, leavin' no question as to where you've been.” He means that the color of her clothing mimics that of her devious personality. In addition he says that “You know you always been such a lady, I’ve always been impressed” meaning that she seems graceful, elegant, and charming, as a lady is often defined, but most importantly, loyal and devotional. Seeing that she is so very far from devotional----as in the song’s title “Little Devotional”----- is surprising and he is impressed of how well she keeps up her picture perfect charade. He knows all of this, sees all of her duplicity yet he continues on with their affair, “But gentlemen, they don’t ask questions, just keep quiet, come pay attention” He believes that as a gentlemen he shouldn’t bombard her with questions and accusations concerning her morals, he should just “keep quiet” and not pay attention to what is really going on. He finally becomes fed up with the affair -----“Do you think he'd be better doing what I do best?" and "...Jut keep quiet come pay attention---WE COULD PAY ATTENTION" meaning that maybe he should pay attention to the girls lies and deception, maybe he shouldn’t ignore it anymore. On a personal note, I too always picture them as though they just came from a fancy dance or dinner, with him in a tux and her in a beautiful deep dark red dress. This picture highlights the lies and betrayal even more because they both cleaned up and seem like high, noble members of society, not two people having an affair.

Taking Back Sunday – Number Five with a Bullet Lyrics 19 years ago
The down south part could actually mean two things---they dont want to go down this road again or she isn't giving him a chance, she doesn't want to leave where she is from and adapt to him where he lives---that is the theory of some others on here.

And NO this song isn't about her wanting him to give her a blow job, come on ppl! Saying, it's a long way down south is a metaphor for, it's a long way back to our sins, a long road of misery! But it is about sex, I agree, but not about a particular act of it!! You can get this through the back lines-----"(Just so you know) (when we get home) (were through)" it's the last time they are having sex, him saying are u sure, absolutely sure? don't do this---get dressed -----they both know this is their last time together (intimately) and Adam is saying---this isn't going to happen again--just to let you know---very ingenious of them to put that int eh back phrases :)

"It's a long way back south
(and to where I belong)
Well yeah you've been there once or twice
(and you still dont like it)
I say you just never gave it a chance
-----south always refers to going down into a deep black hole, or doing something you know you shouldn't, going back or sinking back into your old ways and sins...then the lines "Well you've been there once or twice and u still don't like it, I say give me a chance..." saying that they have been down this bad road before and that it isn't pleasant and that in this case the girl in the song doesn't like it, but she's willing to fall back into her old habits and ways, Adam is asking the question and saying, "Are you positive, absolutely sure, just get dressed don't do this" meaning are u sure u want to do this again? just get dressed and don't do this...then the part about living like thieves, they keep making the same mistakes over and over again, not fixing or repeiring them, just getting away with it and wanting more and more just like thieves.
