I think this song is a metaphor for free style battles as well as a story of Deltron Zero flying around the galaxy and fighting for money. I love how the next song on the CD (Love Story) is a direct continuation of this one with a totaly different theme. |

Girdag is right about the collaboration. And this is Deltron 3030 not Gorillaz. However Del did rap vocals on "Clint Eastwood" and 'Rock the House" for Gorillaz Kid Koala did some turntablism for them and Dan the Automator produced some of the Gorillaz' songs. So I can see how this mistake coulda been made. |

I didn't go through all the posts, so sorry if this has already been said. I think "otherside" means sobriety. In Scar Tissue, Anthony sais that the verse "How long how long will I slide. Separate my side I don’t, I don’t believe it’s bad" means that he doesn't think that drug addiction is inherantly "bad". That he learned alot from his struggle with drugs. "I heard your voice through a photograph I thought it up and brought up the past" I think this is about relapsing. The old need to get high comes back. The 'voice" inside his head compelling him to go buy up bunch of coke and shoot it up. "Once you’ve gone you can never go back" Meaning that you can never be normal again when you gone through addiction. Even if you have stoped abusing drugs/alchohol you will not go back to the way you were. Addiction is a disease that sticks with you for life and you have to deal with it for the rest of your life. "Centuriees are what it meant to me" Meaning that drugs ment everything to him. "A cemetery where I marry the sea Stranger things could never change my mind" In the drug program that Anthony is doing air, fire, earth and water symbolize different things. Water being symbolic of physical pleasure. "Marrying the sea" meaning the physical euphoria that you get from doing hard core drugs like heroin. "Pour my life into a paper cup The ashtray’s full and I’m spillin’ my guts" Could refer to the meeting he attends to deal with help him deal with his addiction. "Turn me on take me for a hard ride Burn me out leave me on the otherside" I think he is talking about the high and the burnout that follows it. "I yell and tell it that It’s not a friend I tear it down I tear it down And then it’s born again" He is saying that drugs are not his friend and he "tear's down" the addiction but then "it is born again" meaning he relapses. (Anthony had countless number of replases, it's crazy how many times he went back to drgus after going clean) There...that's my opinion on the song. Can't believe I wrote all that out. |
