i dunno.. it seems to be a story to me. it starts with him going up to the girl he admires and asking her out, and everything is wonderfull, except he does see some terrible flaw in her... "Caught a glimpse of truth" but when it comes down to it, he really doesn't care and just goes with "oh dang, she's pretty" hair of gold, hair of gold ... i suppose |

I think that he is thinking of suicide. obviously he is not going to go through with it.. "you make me know i've got a lot to live for". obviously means that he isn't going to do it... but why would he mention not killing himself, if the song isn't about not commiting suicide? "tonight one more look like that could set this mission in motion" at the begining, he seemed convinced that he was just on the edge, he was ready to do it. but then he sees this person, and decides against it. now as to this person is, i'm really not sure... it could be his girlfriend: "and if you're ready for some restless sleep we can plan to meet maybe some mundane monday." or maybe about a little kid: "stay six kid and if seven comes on too strong and when eight just drags along you can always cry to nine." or my brothers idea, that his girlfriend is young at heart. but somehow i don't think so... |

I must admit, this is among the most intelligent threads i have read on here... granted, I haven't read to many here, but still... I'm not really sure what this song is about, but it is my favorite Braid song. It was the first song of theirs that I've heard, and I've loved them ever since. Also, I love Hey Mercedes, and I despise the fact that I am only 17, and managed to miss every Braid and Hey Mercedes show.. ever... I do like Jawbox, too. but enough of my opinions... : D I think the song has something to do with breaking out of the bonds of being falsly shown to people. they are tearing down the canvas... meh... |

PJ783 that's the dumbest thing anyones ever said. today, this month, in the present, in the year 2006, Death Cab is pretty popular. they are big. they've signed on a record label. people like them (for some odd reason). and yet, 4 years ago, in 2002, when somebody first mentioned them, they weren't as big. not nearly. I'm pretty sure they were indie back then. and after that, other people kept mentioning them, even after they became big. and about the song... I really had no idea what it was about and hoped 30 or so posts would enlightnen me. but now i'm just very confused. |
