| Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

To the question if Jeff Buckley wrote any of the verses in this song; tha answer is no. He did not write a single word by himself, according to a newspaper article Leonard Cohen actually wrote 15 different verses for this song. Buckleys version is using verse 1 and 2 from Cohen's studio album "Various Positions", and verse 1, 2 and 3 from the album "Cohen Live - Leonard Cohen in Concert" (although Jeff adjusted some sentences, but without changing the meaning of them). So no, Jeff did not write any verses in this song, he simply covered it. |

This is a song about king David and his sin. "That david played and it pleased the lord". David and god ("the lord") being named in the same sentence. "You saw her bathing on the roof", the correct way to write this would be "you saw her bathing, on the roof" indicating that David was the one on a roof, and not Bathsheba (the one taking a bath). I could be wrong here though, since english isn't my main language. But David was on a roof and saw Bathsheba while she was taking a bath. After that he called for her and they had sex, making Bathsheba pregnant. I don't get much sense out of verse number 3 or 4, but then again I'm certainly no expert on the bible or anything. :P "But all i've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you" This part could be about when David sent Uriah to his death. You could say that Uriah "outdrew" David since he married Bathsheba long before David saw her, and that David "shot" him by sending him to his death, and after Uriahs death took Bathsheba as one of his wives. But that might be totally wrong, however I think it's pretty clear that atleast the first 2 verses are written about king David's sin. :) Sources: http://www.case-studies.com/biblestudies/david1.htm (No, I'm no christian freak. I was just interested in the meaning of the song, so I used google. ;P) |

I'm with raebites on this one. My interpretation is that maybe this person suffered from really low self esteem, and saying stuff like "You deserve better" etc. and by doing this also manages to hurt the loved one, causing them to break up. Atleast that's my interpretation of the chorus. |

| Katatonia – Omerta Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think this song is about a man that has broken the Omertá. In the first verse he recognizes an old friend from the mafia, and he kind of gives up hope of getting away from the punishment this time. (Breaking the omertà is punishable by death) "Why have you waited so long" might be sort of a comment on him being able to survive for so long after breaking the omerta. The final verse is obviously where the main character notices that he has been poisoned and then he dies, abruptly ending the song. |
