I agree with bddrex. I have been a fan of this song for a while now & that is what I got out of the lyrics. I figure the father is an alcholic & beat up Johnny which is what caused Johnny to runaway & the father is trying to figure out what in his life was so bad that caused him to drink & do what he did. |

This is such a sad song. It has an amazing bass line, but the lyrics are so sad. This is one of the Scissor Sisters best. Anyone who is bothered by these lyrics is a homophobic loser. This song should nake straight people understand what it's like to be different! |

I just recently found out that Rose Chronicles vocalist & lyric writer Kristy Thirsk has asthma. I'm wondering if this song may be refering to it. Perhaps she's suffering an asthma attack which is causing her heart to pound but she used her inhaller & she's waiting for the release. |

"I do not like living when there is no giving" is a lyric I relate to a lot. Not with everything, but in some cases when you give to people & they don't give back. Or they make false promises.
I think it's a song about somebody who is fed up with living. A lot of the songs on The RC's HEA CD seem to be about that. "Acquiesce" can only be about one thing: suicide.
I love Kristy's singing on this song, but have to agree with bRoKeN-mInDeD. It is one tough song to sing. Kristy has such unique wording & pronounciation that it would be extremely tough for anyone to re-make one of her songs. |

Your rigth this song is about a mother bank robber & her bank robbing sons, but it is actually suppose to be Ma Barker & The Barker gang. I love it nonetheless. It is one of my fave Boney M songs. |

I also believe it is about a man trying to improve himself as a person. I think he keeps trying to feel different emotions like happiness etc., but can't. Time is running out because he's getting older & all he just wants is to have a heart of gold. That what I believe the line: "It's these expressions I never give" means. He wants to show emotion, but has trouble doing it. Its a very sweet song. |
