Just an idea, but maybe the song is from different perspectives? Like the first part is a fundamentalist talking, judging bukowski? then the rest of the song is from the opposite perspective? i dont know, either way, i think the song is saying that christians think god meddles in our lives and controls everything but HE DOESNT. ITS ALL RANDOM, then you see what you want to see. everyone picks and chooses, even christians, thats why theres so many different sects. i have this same argument with one of my friends, who thinks he has this disease because he doesnt go to church, cuz thats what his mom tells him. GOD is all the good things, he doesnt "take life", it just ends because thats how things go. god doesnt give disease, disease happens, shit happens, cuz thats the world god created. The point is that we have a choice. God is only glorified by us choosing him, so why would he CONTROL it? thats not a compliment to him at all. the wedding/wake thing: ive just known alot of christians who focus on the bad, theyll be there when you die to say "see i knew they would die for the things they did!", but not for the happy times or good things in life. god doesnt control everything, he created it so it could run itself. to me, thats more amazing than if he controlled the whole thing. its random, good things and bad things happen, not because god brings it all into your life, but because of probablilty and chance. what a great song |
