| Neil Finn – Souvenir Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
When Neil was with Tim Finn and toured on the back of the first Finn Bros album, they did a TV slot on a UK chat show called 'Richard and Judy'. Apparently, Neil & Tim had waited around all day to do their single 'Angel's Heap', when they got 25 seconds or so in and it was faded out at the end of the show. Apparently, there was a bit of a standoff between Tim and Richard. With that in mind, look at the lyrics as an analysis of what it is to be a chat show host. |

| Neil Finn – Sinner Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Neil has never been shy to confess his 'status' as a lapsed Catholic. This must be about that. Talking about 'make the cross' and the like. I love the paradox where he speaks of instead of getting contentment from religion, he gets it from the release of inhibition and free-expresison, which is what music so capably achieves. | |
| Neil Finn – Faster Than Light Lyrics | 19 years ago |

It speaks to me of Neil conversing with one of his sons. I remember when I first heard it that I could see how I might want to sing this to any child I may have one day. I now have a son and I sing it to him every time I want to help him sleep. "In time you'll recognise that love is larger than life". A sentiment you can't force on a child but they will learn. As a parent you look in awe at the open canvas that is a child's mind and wonder what will condition them to learn the truths of life. I think this is what Neil is addressing. |

| R.E.M. – I'll Take The Rain Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The key line is 'If this is what you're offering; I'll take the rain'. It's not about accepting winter (and general inclement weather) to remain locked in the hold of someone. It's clearly saying that what they offer isn't enough, and the solitude in rain is the only choice. It's my song just now as I find myself the one who wasn't offering enough. I truly love the the phrase: '..and if I hold, I hope you'd fold, then open up..inside of me'. Pure beauty. And I too wish it were possible. |
