On second listen, it could even be a parent dropping a child off at university or somewhere far away from their home. How sweet is that thought? I can picture the drive my Mum and I had .... it's actually resonating more with me than if this was a song about a couple.

I love this simple song. About a couple who are leaving something or somewhere behind to go somewhere new. It's bittersweet, but they are together so it makes it all a little easier.

How wonderful is this young man's voice? So soothing and pure. I love the nuances in his highs and lows and the acoustic version makes this song all the more beautiful. I read on a youtube comment that hearing this song makes you get a feeling in the bottom of your stomach, not a bad feeling, but a feeling like you've just learned something. His lyrics and melodies give a language to the feelings we have all felt about love and yearning for someone.. a language that can only be understood through the ears and voice of someone who has been there.

I love this song. I think it's brilliantly written. To me, it's about having a child and looking at the innocence of a baby that will undoubtedly be tested and tarnished with the hardships of life. And telling that baby that it's ok, it's the way it's supposed to be. The person saying this has gone through that and the only way to feel that sweet innocence again is to see yourself through the eyes of a child.

what a lovely use of words.
I think it's about a relationship that has ended but the two involved can't let go, maybe they tried but they just can't seem to really disconnect from eachother. and this house is a metephor for their love. it's crooked and broken and a little messy but they want to fix it.
a simple life just takes some time.. now. that is a lyric to write about. |

The song is probably about smoking pot to dull the pain of a broken heart. Seems like he loved this really cool chick who was too into loving life to love him back. who knows, all I know is I love the idea the song conjures up of this beautiful woman drung and high dancing in her underwear in a downtown square.

i love love love this song! i heard it played by the lead singer of this band in an acoustic show in a small, but very lively bar in Windsor, ON.. I bought the cd then and there.
I think this song is about coming to a cross roads in a relationship. He is telling his girl he won't let her go without a fight but she's got to feel the same. He won't give up on her if she doesn't give up on him.. I think we've all felt this before. I just can't get enough of the last line 'so i'll wait for tomorrow.. maybe she'll smile at me this time..' |

My friend and I saw the Counting Crows this past Monday - it was an amazing concert and before they played this song Adam said that it was more or less about a girl he dated who was a complete 'bitch'. He went on to say that when it comes down to it all the songs he writes and sings are ultimately about him, although this girl was a total bitch. |
