I'm not so sure it's about suicide, but it is like a message to his fans and everyone in general. I think he's trying to get across that he has seen the self image of someone dear to him crumble and shatter, most likely due to pressure that was too much for that person. Now all that's left is that empty shell of a human, as if the soul was ripped out of the body. There are those, however, who go through this and more and because of this, they fear not death, but continuing to exist in the world that has mistreated them so. He knows how everyone feels as he has gone through the same experiences as well, but is annoyed with the weakness that a suicidal person can have. The weakness won't kill the suicide victim, but it will kill their loved ones. Then the suicidal person tries to justify their actions by saying that they searched for a reason to stay alive, but they found absolutely nothing. 'What of all the promises?,' they say, stating that they've only found lies and never had someone fulfill their promises. Davey tries to get them to rethink it by saying that there's an angel for everyone and an angel in everyone to protect them from danger, even if it doesn't seem like it.He tells him that suicide is nothing more than a permanent solution to a temporary problem that can easily fix itself if only the person wasn't so consumed by anger and negative emotions. He tells the suicidal person that he used to hurt himself just to feel good. He'd screw up everything in his life and before laying down to rest his soul, he'd dwell on the things he'd ruined, the chances he'd never get back, and the people he hurt all for pleasure, just to live. He hopes that this will be enough to convince the other person to rethink his actions and stop him from making a mistake. I don't know. That's what I got ffrom it. |

This is an extremely moving song! Anyways, I think it's about how Davey feels about religion. I mean, he was sent to Catholic school. Those things are really tough on kids from what my friends have told me. But I digress. Basically Davey believes that it is not some omnipotent force or being in any religion that is the cause of our changing and evolution to a brand new way of life, but it is up to us to progress from our filthy and immoral lifestyles. We must follow only what we believe to be true, not what someone has told you or pushed upon you. There are lots of hints to that in there too. For example: 1."Deadly impulse seems so natural, just look beyond it and we'll find a brand new evolution"- Look past the farce that is religion and the ridiculous teachings of those that believe themselves to be right and find a new way to think, a new belief, but not necessarily a religion. 2."And in the distance there's a gathering that no longer seems so far away."- Once shunned by others for not conforming to what they believe and to what they constantly pushed upon you, you now see a gathering of people with the same ideals as you, people who will not say that your way of thinking is wrong or immoral, that will accept you as an individual and not some drone. Now you realize that you are so very close to joining them and are loving it. 3."Pushed to our knees so let us pray, and all together we'll bring the real rain - watch all that's wasted wash away - so let it come. Our will be done."- Pushed to our knees by the tyrannical religion controlled by the state and no longer knowing what it is really there for, we might as well just pray as they won't allow anything more than that. Tired of this same punishment for not being a bunch of conformists, we will someday overpower our "attackers", you could say, and bring the real rain that shall wash away all the impurities that have infiltrated and sullied the church and save us all from wasting away to nothing but a husk without will nor hope, without free thinking. 4."Tradition ingrained, now impermissable."- We have been raised since children that the way that our parents, teachers, and other influences are correct in their thinking, but with this new evolution, those restrictions upon our free will are no longer allowed and we will be freed from it. 5."I can't help but fear, look to my species and tremble to think that God is just...(What is it that Davey screams after this part?)"- Look around you. All over this rotten, impurified world, there is proof that there is no omipotent force or deity or anything controlling what we should think or do. The proof you'll find is horrifying and shocking and if there is a God or something or someone like him, then the idea that he is "just" and fair in his actions is false. Why would we be suffering so if there was a force that could save us all from the pain? I'm a Catholic, but I don't agree with many of the ideals of my religion, but I do believe in God and that the suffering is part of this huge plan he's concocted, even if it wasn't supposed to be this painful. I could be totally wrong on the meaning of this song, but I'm adamant and am sure that there is some truth to my belief. ^.^ |

| I'm not exactly sure why, but when I here this song, this little film plays in my head. Davey is dreaming a horrific dream in which blood seeps from his pores. He dies in this dream and wakes up. He then remembers that he is a dilapidated and run-down asylum for people with mental disorders. He then remembers why he was sent there. He set fire to his home and had attempted to take his life, but was saved before he could die. The blood seeping from his pores was actually doing so, because as he walked in the unkempt, overgrown garden of the asylum, he saw a single bright red rose, defying the other plants by being so hardy. He sees the rose as a flame and attempts to grab it, scraping off the scabs that formed on his arms from the fire he started in his house. As he does so, his sore, raw, exposed pores begin to bleed profusely and he crushes the final rose. People watch him doing this and have trouble beleiving that it was him who insisted on staying in the asylum when he could have just left whenever he wanted. I'm not trying to say that Davey's insane or something, but that was just a daydream I had. I think it does have to do with self-inflicted wounds, but of course, I could be wrong. | |

I know that it's really stubborn of me, but I still think that "Love Like Winter" is a mixture of these topics: 1. the cold bitter side of love that people turn their backs on and pretend isn't there 2. bisexuality (I know, I know. Davey isn't gay or bi, but that doesn't mean that you should leave it out and not keep it as an option.) 3. "She" is pure and innocent. She is the kindest person he has ever met and it tears him apart inside that he is still bitter about his last relationship and it is affecting how he feels about her. 4. "Por Siempre" was written on the mirror by the girl in the second verse. At first, she's furious that he doesn't love her and confronts him in search of answers. ("She said, 'It seems you're somewhere far away', to his face.") He explains himself and being the forgiving and benevolent soul she is, she forgives him and in her heart, she will always love him and wishes the best for him. 5. The last chorus isn't as sad as it sounds, at least not to me. In the end, the two men find each other and realize that the reason they split up was to trivial and they kiss and fall in love once again. Phew... It sounded a lot better in my head. Sorry if you don't agree. *smiles politely and blushes cutely* |

Whoa. Yeesh. You guys need to take a couple uppers and a shot of morphine. You all need to just chill. Calm down. Seriously. 1. Do not go around posting things that put down others. (Unless they deserve it, but I'm NOT about to go into that!) 2. Everyone really should diversify their interpretations. 3. If you numbskulls are going to argue, then how about trying to see things from the other's(s') point of view. Only when you've done some research into what the other is saying may you argue back. 4. I'm not fond of the Christ or vampire theories, but to each his own preference. I'm going with the "kind empath does everything in his/her power to heal and comfort the other and knows that if he/she continues, he/she will eventually cease to exist, yet their relationship is so strong, so unbreakable, that he/she continues to the very end." theory. Mmmmm, that's it. I think... Oh yeah! tRyXRyZ? PLEASE do not bad-mouth (or whatever it was you were attemting to do) Love Like Winter. It's my favorite song, in my opinion, the best song they've ever written and it holds a special meaning for me and I know I'm just rambling at this point, but please don't, the song is incredibly significant to me. Also, I highly doubt that Davey believes himself to be God. I reeeeeeaaaaally doubt it. A lot. Muchisimo. With great intensity! |

| Good Lord, people! Shut up, will ya? AFI hasn't sold out! This song is (maybe) about a ruined wedding! AFI never claimed to be punk rock! EVER! They do to deserve the money! If you are a true fan, then damn it, be goddamn proud of those four talented, awesome, (and pretty sexy) guys! AFI is, in my opinion the best band I've EVER listened to and nothing you wanna-bes and haters say will ever change my opinion! I became a fan when I listened to Miss Murder, I bought the Decemberunderground (my first ever AFI CD), fell in love with Love Like Winter, and went and bought myself Sing the Sorrow and Answer that and Stay Fashionable! All their CDs are good, you guys are just so close-minded that you can't understand that! Ugh, you people make me so mad with your"AFI sold out!" and "AFI sucks!"!!! Its worse that the "older" fans feel superior because they've been around longer! HA! Is that truly what you think? | A couple of you guys are wrong about what "Por Siempre" is translated in English. It is "forever", not "for always". "For always" is bad grammar anyways, so that couldn't possibly be it. | I am in love with this song. In my opinion, it is about the narrator's(not necessarily Davey) love life and bisexuality. He warns the listener to not fall in love because of his own experiences which have left him cold and frustrated. The song has the verses "he wanted love/she wanted love" and I taste of blood", right? Well the "he/she wanted love" part may be is about the narrator's other loves' needs and wants. There isn't a serious relationship if there's no love. "I taste of blood" refers to how much pain he went through during and after each heartbreak, which left him bitter and cold. I've never been in this kind of situation, but I feel for him. Regardless of the meaning, the song is great. None of their other songs even compare to "Love Like Winter". That's my opinion, at least... | |

The song does seem to be about a friend's death. Miss Murder may be a representation of the killer of their friend, if he got murdered of course. I'm stumped. | |
