If you take this song in context of the other songs on the album (especially Sunday Best, which occurs later on in the record), this song then reflects the beginning of the break-up that happens between the singer and his girlfriend. She's got too much baggage lying around in California (maybe he's part of it), and wants to go across the country to start anew. The feeling I get from this song is taht the singer wants to go with her, even though he still enjoys being on the west coast. But 5 songs later, in Sunday Best, she's already gone and he hasn't, and he's made his peace with the situation and sings about it. I love this song; it makes me feel so many different emotions all at the same time. I love Augustana's lighter stuff! |

This is a great song, I love the 'softer' Augustana songs like this one and Boston. I wish they'd make more of them that are acoustic or piano, but I guess that would detract from their Rock roots. I feel like this song is about the singer breaking up with the girl due to circumstances (she leaves LA for Boston). He still thinks about her, but it's too late and they've both kinda made their peace with it. Still, it's a song about love. I really like it because I'm in a similar situation and I know how it feels to be in love with someone but having to break it off due to circumstances. |
